Kay McQueen is different from the women in her family. She lives her life for her, not for a man. Though she enjoys an occasional romp with a sexy man, she is not looking for Mr. Right. Her goals in life are to build her home health care business, and to travel the world. Well, at least she has her business life together. The travel thing, not so much. That is until her favorite aunt passes away, leaving a journal with her final wishes.
As far as Kay knows, Aunt Gigi is the ultimate single girl, the life of the party, even pushing eighty years old. What she finds in Gigi’s journal causes her to rethink her position on love and marriage. She embarks on a dual purpose journey; to scatter Gigi’s ashes and to discover love. Along the way, she encounters a man named Heath who is tall, sexy, and has magical hands. His kisses set her body on fire, but when she finds out his true identity, she wants to set him on fire, literally.
Find out how Kay handles the situation and see exactly who Heath is and what it means to Kay’s family. When these two worlds collide, the outcome is explosive. Heath’s lies and deception finally catch up with him, as Kay finds that what she was looking for, she already had. Discover why Happily Ever After isn’t always what it seems.
I allowed my alarm to blare into the room for three minutes before I begrudgingly unearthed myself from the mountain of covers on my California King. My bed is super comfy, but that’s not the reason I didn’t want to leave it. This was the most dreaded day of the year! This was the day when ALL of my family members got together, for the sole purpose of finding me a man. The McQueen family reunion!
You may think I was overreacting, but I swear, ever since I turned forty they have been coming out of the woodwork. Aunties, uncles, cousins, play cousins, brothers that I don’t have and sisters that I wish I didn’t all congregated under the guise of family, just to torture me. If I had to hear ‘Kay, when are you gonna find you a man and have some babies?’ one more time, I think I might join a convent. That would shut them up. On second thought, the nuns would probably be giving me the side eye too.
I finally made it onto my feet in a standing position and stumbled into the bathroom to take care of my business. Before the water could even heat in the shower my big sister, Tessa, was blowing up my phone. Mind you, I had a gas water heater, so the water was always hot. I should let her old melon head go to voicemail, but she will keep calling until I answer.
“Good morning Tess. What’s good?”
“What’s good? What young boy did you learn that from? You sound like your nephew when he’s talking to his friends.”
“Did you call to give me lessons on millennial phrases and culture, or was there a purpose to this call?”
I rolled my eyes and removed my toothbrush from its holder, spreading toothpaste on the bristles. I may as well brush while she ranted. There would be no way for me to get a word in edgewise. Putting the call on speaker, I placed my phone on the counter so I could groom properly without being rude.
“Eww, who pissed in your cornflakes this morning? Anywho, I just wanted to make sure you were up. You can’t be late for the festivities this year. Auntie Gigi has been asking for you since everyone arrived last night. You should have seen that woman trying to twerk. I swear, Kay, if you don’t get your act together, you will turn out just like her. Old, sad and alone, trying to shake your behind with the young folk.”
Tessa never did get along with Auntie Gigi, but she was my favorite aunt. Somehow, Tessa thought comparing me to her would be an insult, but I would love to live the kind of life Gigi had. Pushing eighty years old and could twerk? Are you kidding me? #lifegoals
My older sister made a habit of asking me when I was going to settle down and get married. That was her way of showing me that she cared, but her inquiries annoyed me. As a forty something strong African American woman I did not need a man to validate my life! Though, if I was being honest, I definitely want one sometimes.

I had run my Saturday morning errands, which included the grocery store and farmers market, the post office, and our local gym. I had become inspired by Sasha and decided to purchase a membership. Maybe I would meet people there and could get out of the house.
When I pulled back up to the house after one that afternoon, I could’ve slapped myself. I had completely forgotten I’d set up an appointment with a new landscaper. My usual landscaping service was with a large company that no longer provided the attention to detail that I needed for my property. I had instead selected a smaller company on the recommendation of a co-worker at the office.
A green, Back 2 Nature Landscaping Services truck sat in my driveway. My appointment to meet with a representative to discuss my property was at 12:30. Glancing at my watch, I cringed, realizing it was well over an hour later, yet they had stayed to wait on me. Desperate for my services? I hoped not. I mean, yes, I wanted them to focus on my needs and make them a priority, but I hoped the service wasn’t so poor that their clientele was that low.
Getting out of my car, I grabbed a few of my grocery bags. I would pull my car into the garage later, but I needed to grab the perishable items now. He would have to wait just a moment longer. I had a pretty decent handle on at least three of the bags. I was debating whether or not to make multiple trips to unload my groceries now or later, when a smooth, deep voice broke into my thoughts. I jumped, because I didn’t realize he had left his truck, let alone gotten that close to me.
“Here, let me help you with those. Mrs. Blankenship, correct?” he asked.
“I don’t need—” I broke off my refusal of assistance once I turned around and looked up. Standing in front of me was nothing but hot fineness melted into six feet of male muscle. I glanced up and down his body, taking in every morsel one drop at a time. Something like a shiver ran down my spine as I imagined those arms wrapped around me on a cold winter night.
His fawn-colored skin was flushed from the heat of the afternoon sun. Lifting my eyes slowly up to his face, I noticed his close-set, smoky, black eyes taking me in from head to toe. His perusal left me feeling womanly. Full lips tilted up in a smile, as he ran long, tapered fingers through short-cropped, black hair, the color of a raven’s wing.
I tried repeating my denial once more. “I don’t need…” I couldn’t seem to make it. The words just wouldn’t come out. I wanted to tell him that I didn’t need his help, but somehow, the lie wouldn’t form on my lips.
Those slanted, dark brown eyes were staring me down as if he could see right through me. And I refused to look at those luscious lips with a fine sprinkling of hair on the top, because they were enough on their own to make me go into a sexual frenzy. His well-trimmed fade looked as if it would be soft, yet bristly underneath my fingers.
Whew! Naomi, girl, get it together and stay focused. I had to lecture myself or we’d never make it through this appointment.
“Hello…are you there?” he asked again, waving his hand in front of my face. “Let me help you with those,” he said, reaching beyond me to remove the remaining bags from my trunk.
“Uh…uh, sure, thanks,” I said, moving out of his way. I watched as he scooped the rest of the bags up and maintained ahold of the portfolio under his arm easily. It would have taken me two to three trips to retrieve those bags.
I walked to my house and juggled the bags I had so that I could unlock the door.
“I’m so sorry. I completely got caught up running my errands and forgot about our appointment,” I apologized breathlessly, as I sat the bags on the kitchen island. You would have thought I had just finished working out the way I was out of breath. I had been working nothing but my imagination since I laid eyes on this fine specimen.
He sat the remaining bags on the island next to mine. “No problem. Actually, it gave me time to do a few more mock-ups. I know we were supposed to discuss your landscaping needs today, but I was able to walk around the property and survey the land. I have quite a few suggestions for what would be best for your lawn, but that’s only after we address your concerns, of course,” he said, motioning at me.
“Oh, yeah…sure. Um, would you like something to drink?” I asked, putting away a jug of juice into the refrigerator.
“I would love something. Do you mind?” he asked, pointing at a stool at the island.
“Um, no. No, I don’t mind. Have a seat. I don’t know where my manners are today,” I apologized, laughing nervously. “I hope I’m not keeping you from another appointment.”
“No, ma’am. Actually, you were the only appointment I had on the schedule today,” he explained, as I sat a glass of juice in front of him.
“Not much business?”
“No, we have a sufficient amount of business. Everyone else is actually booked; my schedule was the only one that was pretty lax today,” he explained. He took a sip from the glass of juice I had sat before him.
I watched him take a sip and found myself wondering what it would feel like to have his lips on me the way they wrapped around the rim of that glass. Naomi! Get a grip, woman, and stop lusting over this man. Don’t get me wrong, I had been attracted to plenty of men over the last eighteen years. I had just refrained from taking a bite of that forbidden apple. My life revolved around my daughter, Sasha, and my career.
But it was like after the talk she and I had this morning and the one that I had with Ambiance on yesterday, something had been unleashed within me. The only thing I needed at that moment was a good dose of scripture and some prayer. Matter of fact, I needed someone to anoint me with oil and lay hands on me.
Oh, yeah, now that was a good thought. Or maybe not, since I wasn’t thinking of spiritual oil and the laying on of hands that they did at my church.
“Mrs. Blankenship, did you hear me?” he asked.
Once again, I was caught daydreaming. This man was going to think I was the world’s largest idiot if I didn’t get it together soon.
“I’m sorry, I have a lot on my mind. Do you mind repeating your question?”
“I asked…well, never mind what I asked. Would you like to reschedule? I can come back when it’s better for you,” he suggested.
“Oh, no…no, don’t come back. I mean…come back, but don’t leave. This is a good time. I just have to get things off my mind,” I apologized frenetically. The last thing I wanted was for him to leave me.
“Are you sure?” he asked, with a lift of his eyebrow. He appeared to be somewhat amused.
“Yes, I’m sure. You have my undivided attention as of this moment. Now, what was the question you wanted to ask?” I took a seat across from him as he spread out his plans between us on the empty island. With all of my confusion, I had somehow managed to put my groceries away.
“I was asking if Mr. Blankenship would be joining us?” he muttered, staring down at his plans and then erasing something, just to pencil in something else.
“Lord, I would certainly hope not!” I exclaimed in what might have been too eager a tone.
“Why not?” he asked, looking back up at me with confusion on his face.
“Because, I don’t understand the purpose of having my father sit in on this meeting. I’m a grown woman fully capable of handling my own landscaping decisions,” I teased, with a slight smirk on my face.
His eyebrows slowly unwrinkled, the confusion leaving his face, as the meaning of my statement dawned on him.
“I apologize, I didn’t mean to assume you were married, or…” he broke off. It seemed as if he was uncertain what he should say next.
“It’s okay. I was just teasing. But no, I’m not married, I don’t have a boyfriend, or fiancée. It’s just me and my landscaping needs,” I confessed.
I sounded a bit desperate even to my own ears. Then I begin to question my sanity. Why on earth would I tell this complete stranger that I was in this big house all alone? For all I knew he could be a serial killer or rapist.
“Well, that’s good. I mean not that it’s good you aren’t married or engaged, or even have a boyfriend…I mean…I don’t know what I mean,” he chuckled, shaking his head.
“It’s okay. Can we start over?” I asked, extending my hand.
“Sure,” he replied. “I’m Kiyoshi Hayashi,” he introduced himself with a hint of humor in his eyes. The smile that graced his lips took me straight to Heaven. But nothing prepared me for his touch as he took my hand in his and firmly shook it. The touch of his hand did something else to me. Father, forgive me for I have sinned, I thought.
“Kiyoshi, pleased to meet you. I’m Naomi,” I returned.
I liked the way his name sounded on my tongue. Japanese, I wondered.
“In my native language, which is Japanese it means ‘pure,’” he pronounced, answering my unspoken question. “Now that we have that out of the way, can we return to the business at hand?” he redirected. It caught me off guard how serious he became after that statement. Gone were the teasing look in his eyes and the playfulness of his voice. But after all, he was here for a purpose and I had held the man up for more than an hour.
“Kiyoshi, I want to apologize once more for leaving you here so long. I really didn’t mean to take up your time the way that I did,” I apologized again.
“Really, Naomi, you don’t have to keep apologizing. It really wasn’t a problem. Now, why don’t you tell me what your expectations of Back 2 Nature Landscaping are and your concerns about your lawn,” he coaxed.
I happily allowed him to redirect the meeting to its original intent and purpose. It had gotten way too uncomfortable for me. But I knew what my problem was. He was the first man that had been in my home other than my father and Sasha’s father, Jaime. Yes, I had to get a life. I couldn’t be jumping the man’s bones just because he looked in my direction. Besides, he wasn’t even my type.

Excerpt – The Thick of Things
As the people around me settled into groups, I wondered if it wouldn’t be a good idea to disappear before Douglas returned. The more I considered it, the better I liked the idea. I had wrapped my scarf around my arms and was on my feet, a few steps from where Douglas left me, when he intercepted me.
“Um, I was going to the ladies’ room.”
He held out the glass as if he hadn’t heard me. “One day, I suppose you’ll tell me.”
“Tell you what?”
“Why you’re trying to avoid me.”
“I am not really—“
He moved his head slowly from side to side. “Don’t lie about it. You’ve been trying to escape from me the whole evening.”
“You can believe whatever you like.”
He pulled his head back in a gesture I found funny. “Is that all you’ve got?”
My lips twitched and my smile broke free. “Yes, and I’m sticking to it.”
Douglas laughed, a low, husky sound that sent shivers chasing through my stomach. I folded one arm around my waist and held on to my glass as if it were a lifeline. He had a smile that made me want to reciprocate, but I was so dazzled all I could do was swallow hard and blink as if I were a teenager who had come into the orbit of a movie star.
I drank some of the punch, taking in too much in one mouthful. As I swallowed, I hoped the rum would act fast so I’d mellow out quickly. It warmed my throat and settled in my belly, making me feel heavy and full.
“So…” He slid a hand into his pants pocket and cocked his head. “What is it about me that gives you the urge to run in the opposite direction?”
“I have to give you points for persistence.”
He shrugged. “I make my money by studying different markets, so I’m patient…and persistent, like you said.”
I got the impression he was giving me a message, but I ignored that since I wasn’t in the market for romance in any form. Not even a fling, which wasn’t my style anyway.
“That’s good to know,” I said, deliberately sounding casual. I didn’t want Douglas thinking I was interested in him, no matter what my body felt about the matter. Being with him in my mind was all kinds of erotic and exciting, but now that we were together, I didn’t have a clue how to navigate through what I sensed would be a dangerous minefield. One I had no business contemplating.
“Anything else?” he asked, tipping one eyebrow.
I narrowed my eyes, wondering what I’d missed. Then, what he asked came to mind. With a smile, I said, “By nature I’m cautious, so when a man like you is taking interest it makes me wonder what that’s all about.”
“A man like me?” His eyebrow climbed again. “Should I be offended?”
“Not at all. I just mean you look like you’ve been around the block a few times.”
“And that makes me unsuitable for a lady such as you?”
“I never said that.”
When he smiled, I realized he’d neatly trapped me with my words.
Hi everyone!! This is the fifth day of the 30 Days 30 Authors event, and today, Stacy Deanne will be gracing the blog. Not only is this is her second time participating in this event (she was also a featured author last year); but this is also her release day for her brand new book, Stripped!
Now, here’s Stacy! 🙂
Stacy-Deanne (Dee-Anne) is an award-winning author of sensual romantic suspense, contemporary romance, and women’s fiction books. She’s written Amazon Top 100 bestsellers, and her work has been praised and reviewed in USA Today numerously. She loves writing stories that focus on main characters who rarely get the spotlight such as characters with physical disabilities, mental illness, and terminal diseases.
Stacy is known for bringing versatile stories to her readers. With her you never know what you’re gonna get, which separates Stacy’s work from the pack. Stacy’s books are full of passion, thrills, intriguing characters and so much emotion you can’t get enough! If you want something different and unpredictable then definitely check out her work.
With Stacy every book is an adventure.
1. What inspired you to become an author?
Writing comes from my soul. I wouldn’t be myself if I wasn’t a writer. I really believe it’s my calling and fate. I write the genres I write in because I enjoy them and the interest comes from the heart. I write BWWM books because I strongly support interracial relationships. This is a personal lifestyle choice so of course I wanna write something that I’m interested in and that reflects me. That’s why my books come from the heart concerning that aspect. I wanted to write stories that showcase couples in BWWM relationships for readers interested in them.
2. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?
My debut novel was published by Simon and Schuster so I was elated. I couldn’t believe it had finally happened because I’d worked so hard for years trying to get someone to notice my work. Unfortunately, my mother passed away around the time the book was released so emotionally I wasn’t there. I was still proud but because of the difficult loss, I became detached from what I’d accomplished and though it was my first novel published, it will always link to a very difficult part of my life.
3. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I don’t like to answer these types of questions. LOL! I’ve been in the writing business 20 years now, and I’ve learned that you can’t plan on anything careerwise or in life. We can hope things turn out as planned but life always throw curveballs so I just go with the flow and execute my goals to the best of my ability from day-to-day.
4. Since you participated in the 31 Days 31 Authors event last year, has anything changed with your career since then?
Not really, I am still grinding and releasing books and doing my best to keep work going.
5. Do you have any new projects that you are currently working on?
I have completed three installments of the Stripped Series. I am looking for the entire series to be around 4-5 books. Captured (Book 2) is available now and will release October 17th. You can pre-order it at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0751HZN4M/ref=series_rw_dp_sw
I have also completed a Christmas story I will be releasing in Dec. and am getting ready to work on a standalone.
6. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?
The best advice I would say is to make sure you are writing from the heart and if you aren’t then you won’t last in this business because it’s tough. Also, everyone should research the craft and business side of writing. Be prepared to continue learning and growing because that’s the key to being a good writer.
Excerpt from Stripped:
(Winston confronts Jonathan)
Jonathan walked in wearing a black, crew-neck T-shirt and slim-fitting black slacks. “Am I interrupting something?”
“No.” Shauna jumped, rushing to him. “How are you, darling?” She kissed his cheek. “This is Detective Winston Lewis.”
“We finally meet.” Jonathan’s silver-gray eyes danced. “I’m Jonathan Wild. Welcome to my home.”
“Thanks.” Winston kept a stiff tone. “Stay away from Dee.”
Jonathan grinned, glancing at Shauna. “He’s forward like me. I like that, Winston.”
“Don’t make me repeat myself.” He squinted. “Stay away.”
Jonathan patted Shauna’s cheek. “Give us a moment.”
Shauna smiled at Winston, his gaze following her out the room.
“You like what you see?” Jonathan stood next to Winston. “Shauna I mean?”
Winston broke his stare from the door.
“Don’t feel guilty. She’s a beautiful woman. She had me speechless the first time I met her.”
“I have no interest in anyone here. What you’re doing to Dee, it’s not happening, Jonathan. I’m not standing by while you manipulate her.”
“Are we talking about the same woman?” His brows met his forehead. “Because the Deidra Quarter I know wouldn’t let anyone manipulate her.”
“You don’t know a damn thing about her.”
“Did Tran offer you any refreshments—”
“I’m not playing with you.” Winston stood chest-to-chest with him. “Dee’s my woman, and I’m not letting any man take her away from me.”
“Does she realize you think of her as property?” Jonathan sauntered across the stone floor. “I’m flattered to see I threaten you.”
“Kiss my ass. I’m not threatened but you will be if you don’t leave Dee alone.”
“What am I doing to her?” Jonathan stood by the chimney with his arm propped on the mantel. “She’s the one who keeps coming by even when it has nothing to do with the case. You should have this conversation with her.”
“I’m having it with you.” Winston lifted his chin. “You don’t wanna go there with me. I will do whatever I have to, to protect my relationship.”
“Well.” Jonathan made a fist, mocking. “Deidra brings out the animal in you, huh? She’s a grown woman who makes her own decisions. If she wants to see me, then she’ll see me and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
“Why am I getting so worked up?” Winston chuckled. “It’s obvious you’re the killer and doing this to throw Dee off her case.”
“Oh, no.” Jonathan rubbed his buzz cut. “I’m a lover, not a killer. My interest in Deidra has nothing to do with the investigation.”
“I’m warning you.” Winston rushed toward him. “Stay the hell out of our lives.”
“Does Deidra love you?”
Winston gaped, wondering what his angle was for the question. “Of course.”
“Then why so upset?”
“Because you can make her believe anything. That’s what you do with women isn’t it, Jonathan? You got self-esteem issues or something? Think a woman won’t want you unless you manipulate her and lock her in your compound?”
He lowered his head, smirking. “These women beg for my attention.”
“Yeah, because they’re brainwashed and can’t tell if they’re coming or going.”
Jonathan passed a dirty look. “Most times they’re coming.”

MEET THE GRIFFIN FAMILY in this Series Starter!
Insanely hot father and son duo Raleigh and Wil Griffin own and manage the Griffin Gas Company. Raleigh’s father passed it on to him at a young age and he’s made quite the name for himself over the years.
Wil has his own problems to deal with as he takes control of the family business. Throughout the years, generations of Griffin men have continued to go back to the same unpopular vacation spot, all for different reasons.
Dafne and Raleigh Griffin stumbled on The Happy Endings Resort as a young married couple in the 1980s. They started vacationing there because they could afford it; then after coming into some money, they continued to visit the resort because it was a quiet place that took them back to a simpler time.
Their son Wil honeymooned with his bride at the resort, where long-kept secrets escaped the confines of the cabin’s walls.
“She’s a Tiger Lily” is Book 26 in The Happy Endings Resort series and Book One in the Company of Griffins series. It is a standalone, but can be read along with either series. The story continues in Book two when trouble and devastating news leads the Griffins to the resort once more.
