Here’s an excerpt:

It was a Thursday night and Quad was leaving the Stadium Sports Bar & Grill. He had just left his brothers whom he met up with for a around of drinks. As Quad walked to his car he noticed a woman trying to change her car tire. He walked toward her and tried his best not to frighten her as he walked slowly.
She pitched. “Oh, my word!”
She almost lost her balance, but Quad was able to catch her.
“Are you okay?” He asked with hit of concern in his voice.
She shook her head. “Yes, I’m okay. You just scared the hell out of me.”
He gave her a half smile. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“That’s okay.”
Quad looked around and saw that she had the jack out and one lug nut. He thought to himself she didn’t do too bad because it’s clear that she has an idea on how to change a tire. Probably more than most women knew how to.
“Okay, it’s looks like you started to change the tire already.”
“Yeah, but I’ve only been able to get one of those round things off. Also, I’m hot as hell.” She said softly, looking down at her nails.
Quad laughed. He agreed with her one hundred percent because it was close to ninety degrees tonight.
“I see that, however, it’s not bad at all. I’ll finish changing the tire for you.” He said reaching for the jack.
The woman placed her hand up. “Hold on, wait a minute! Before you start changing anything, what’s your name?”
The woman needed to know the basic facts about this very handsome man who was about to change her car tire. Where does he live, his occupation, his blood type, is he single or married? Then she thought maybe she should call her best friends Elle or Rashaun so she could keep them on the line.
“My bad, my name is Quad.” He said extending his right hand.
“Nice to meet you Quad, I’m MJ.” She said shaking his hand.
He held her hand for a moment. He felt something between them, but he couldn’t explain it. He was curious what MJ stood for.
“It’s nice to meet you too, MJ. If it makes you feel any better you can call someone while I change the tire. It shouldn’t take me more than twenty minutes if that long.”
He studied her face, realizing she looked familiar, but he wasn’t sure from where but that wasn’t important right now.
“Oh, that won’t be necessary. I’m a pretty good judge of character.” She said.
Quad stood about six feet tall, with a dark complexion. With both dark brown eyes and hair which was closely cropped to his scrap. MJ could also tell that he’s a member of a fraternity, but couldn’t tell which one because it was too dark to make out his ring.
He looked familiar to her as he favored Levi McKnight the attorney. Then again, she could be wrong because he could be his nephew or something because the McKnight family was sizable.
“Okay, I’m also a pretty good judge myself.” Quad said as he started to change the tire.
He could tell she just came from work by the way she was dressed. However, he wondered why she was out here changing her tire by herself. Didn’t she have a boyfriend or bother she could have called? Then again it wasn’t his business. He knew if he was her man it’s no way in hell she would be out here this time of night changing her own tire, especially in this heat.
MJ played with her phone while Quad finished changing her tire. She started to wonder what would have happened if Quad didn’t show up. MJ knew she would probably still be struggling to change it. For the life of her, her roadside assistance call wouldn’t go through, so she made a mental note to call and email them about it.
“All done, Miss MJ,” Quad said and placed the tire in the back trunk. He finally got a good look at her; first thing that came to his mind was that she was beautiful.
MJ stood about five feet-three-inches tall, had smooth mocha complexion, with hazel eyes, and golden brownish hair, which she wore in a bun. She had high cheekbones and dimples on both side of her cheeks.
“Thank you so much, Quad. I don’t know what I would have done without you,” she said.
“You’re most welcomed beautiful.” He said and helped her into her car.
“Thanks once again.”
“No big deal. I know you don’t know me from a can of paint, but I want you to message me once you get home. I would feel much better.” Quad said.
Honestly, he didn’t know what got into him; she could be married with three kids waiting for her at home.
Maya arched her eyebrow. “That’s not necessary, Quad. I’ll be fine, I’m a big girl.” She said as she hands him her cell phone. She knew he wasn’t going to take no for an answer. Beside she felt he was harmless; that’s what her gut was telling her.
“It’s necessary, MJ” He said as he put his number into her cell phone.
When their hands touched once again it felt electric. He held onto her hand for a few minutes before letting it go. Quad looked into her hazel eyes; it was like a spell of desire was unleashed because all he wanted to do was kiss her, but he fought it as quickly as possible.
“I’ll let you go now.”
“Thanks again Quad. I’ll make sure to massage you once I’m home.” She said with a smile.
“You’re most welcome.”
Quad waited until he could no longer see the taillight of her car before getting into his own. On the drive home, he kept looking at his cell phone to see if MJ had messaged him. It usually took him twenty–five minutes for him to get home, but he got there in twenty-minutes with great anticipation. Still no message from MJ. He wasn’t stressing if she didn’t messaged him.
***
MJ pulled into the drive way of her three-story home. She picked up her cell phone to look for Quad’s number to message him:
Once again thanks. I’m home safe and sound.
Just as Quad came out of the shower, he checked his phone. A sense of relief came through him when he saw a message from her.
You’re most welcome. I’m glad you’re home safe and sound. Good Night, MJ …

Hi everyone! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. For me, not so much, but I’m still staying positive, especially since I’m proud to announce my newest project!

I’m so excited to be releasing a new novella under Xyla Turner’s Lady Guardians series, which is part of the Kindle World books on Amazon. This is such a wonderful series and I’m so proud to be apart of it with such a shrew of amazing authors.

For my novella, I’ll be releasing Lady Guardians: The Ultimate Risk, which is all about Raven, as she tries to find herself due to a tragedy that she has experienced years before. She meets Ryan, who helps her overcome her issues, but will soon learn that their relationship is tested due to an issue he has with her ultimate passion.

Here is the synopsis:

Raven Howard has always lived life on the edge. No matter what, she is always willing to try new things and just enjoy life. While her personal life is adventurous, she does have a balance with her professional life by being a kindergarten teacher. She loves kids and hopes to have some one day.

Despite her family’s disapproval, one of the things Raven loves to do is ride her Street Triple R on the weekends. It’s a great way for her to relax and just be on the open road for a few hours.

003

When her friend, Tess, mentioned that a new Lady Guardian chapter would be opening in Houston, she was all for becoming a member.  A past incident involving her brother threatens to rekindle memories that she nor her family want to relive. She is willing to move on, but it could destroy the tenuous relationship she has with her family. Is Raven willing to make the choice that is best for her, or will she bend to please her family?

Ryan Baxter is going through a lot while being a single father to his five-year-old daughter, Kendall. His wife passed away a year ago and he is still trying to pick up the pieces of his life. This young father is trying to be strong for Kendall, but sometimes his shattered heart and soul make him question whether he can survive the emotional storm of his wife’s death.

Handsome man in white shirt. Closeup portrait.

When he meets Kendall’s teacher, Raven, during a parent/teacher conference, Ryan is instantly smitten with her. That’s a feeling he hasn’t felt for anyone since his wife’s passing. As the two slowly connect, the attraction they have is undeniable, but also scary.

You and me against the world

When Ryan finds out about Raven’s passion for fast bikes and the open road, he immediately disapproves, which is an issue for Raven. Although Raven discovers Ryan’s reason for his disapproval, a war of wills ensues. If Raven wouldn’t stop riding for her family, then she won’t for Ryan. Will her decisions drive away the man that she has fallen in love with?

Raven has a lot to deal with from all directions. Will she be able to keep everything under control, or will it all come crashing down around her?

Sample Sunday- Lessons In Love

Lessions - High Resolution[13853]

Hey everyone!! Wow, it has been awhile since I’d posted anything on my blog (sorry about that), but I’ve been so busy trying to finish Lessons In Love while working, and other personal stuff, so honestly, I’m physically and emotionally drained.

Speaking of Lessons In Love, I hope you all have pre-ordered your copy of the first book in my brand new series, because it will be available on July 31st! I’m really excited about this book, along with the entire series, because each story will only be explained through the main character’s POV (compared to my other stories, in which the story is usually told from both the heroine/hero’s POVs).

The first book will be told in Trina’s POV as she struggles to move on after she finds out her  boyfriend has been two-timing her.  I don’t want to give too much away, but I will give a tiny preview of the story, in which Trina goes back to her childhood.

This excerpt is unedited. Enjoy! 🙂

June, 1992

“Mama!”

“Yes, T!”

I stared at myself in my full-length mirror, wondering will I be like my mom when I grow up. I wonder if I’ll look like her or dress like her, or even act like her. Even though I’m only 6, I always had a curious mind, so of course I always think about the future. With how my life is going right now, I had to think like a grown up. My mom sure not.

It’s not as if she’s not there for me; she is, but there are times when I wished she would slow down with dating multiple men and just spend time with me. Even I know that she gets into relationships too quickly, which all ended up in failure. That’s why I wasn’t concerned about meeting Gary, the new man in her life. I knew for a fact he wouldn’t last either.

I was still looking at myself when my mom walked into my room. She looked beautiful, dressed in a green sleeveless dress, which went with her caramel complexion. Her hair was pulled back into a high ponytail as she gave a concerned look.

“Child, why haven’t you packed yet? Your aunt Dedra is coming soon to pick you up.”

I gave a long-winded sigh. That’s what my weekend consisted of. While my mom went out, I went to my aunt’s house to spend time with her. Although she didn’t mind, I knew she was frustrated because she was only 23 and could be doing something else with her weekend than spending it babysitting her niece.

“I’m already packed.” I mumbled before sitting on my bed. Sometimes after coming home from Aunt Dedra’s, I don’t even unpack because I knew I’ll be back there again.

“Then what’s wrong? Why did you call me?”

I sighed, wondering why I’m even mentioning this, but I had to ask. “Why don’t you want to spend the weekends with me? Is it because it reminds you of Dad?”

My mom lowered her head and took a deep breath before sitting beside me. She put my hand into hers and sighed. “I know I have been out a lot, and I’m sorry, but we do spend time together. Despite what happened with your dad and me, I would never blame you for that. You are my mini-me, so don’t you forget that.”

I smiled. “Why do you always call me that?”

She gave a slight chuckle before speaking. “Because that’s what your dad used to call you. You’re the splitting image of me, so he always said that you’re my mini me.”

I lowered my head when my mom placed a hand on my chin so she could stare at me. “I know you miss him. I miss him too.”

“Is that why you’re dating different men? So you can feel wanted?”

My mom titled her head as she gave a slight shiver. “Why would you say that?”

“Because you felt lonely when Dad died. Why do you need a replacement husband when you have me?”

My mom caressed my cheek and smiled. “Honey, no one can ever replace you or even your dad. Your dad was one of a kind. Even though he was, he’s not here, so of course I would want to talk to other men. He’s been gone for awhile now, so it’s time for me to move on.”

“He’s been gone for a year.”

“He has, but I know your father. He wouldn’t want me moping around feeling sorry for myself. Instead, he would want me to go out and date. He would want this, T.”

I slowly shrugged, knowing my mom was still struggling with the fact that my dad was gone. He died from lung cancer, which shocked everyone, because he never smoked. My mom still never gotten over his death; that’s why she wants to find another husband immediately. I may be a child, but I know the signs.

“Okay, enough talking, Trina. Your auntie will be here soon.”

I nodded as my shoulders slumped. I guess that talk didn’t help at all. I slowly got up to grab my shoes. I sat back on the bed and looked at myself in the mirror again. My mom walked out of my room as I continued to stare. A tear rolled down my cheek as I looked down to the floor. I do look like my mom, but I hope I never have her personality when I grow up. I know if I ever become a mother, I would never do the things she’s doing right now. Maybe she will change in the future; but right now, it seems highly unlikely that she will.
