Excerpt- Believe In Love

26230446_1637339729657817_7906820370928484076_n

Hey everyone!! The latest Love, Life, & Happiness spin-off, Believe In Love, is coming next week! Can’t wait to read an excerpt from the book? Well, you all are in luck! Here is an excerpt of the first chapter of the story from Cheryl’s POV (this excerpt does contain explicit language).

Enjoy! 🙂

Growing up, I always remembered my grandmother saying, “Your life is what you make of it.” At first, I always wondered what she meant by that, but as I got older, I knew the concept behind the phrase. Especially now as I’m adjusting to everything that’s happening to me.

A few years ago, I never imagined my life to be where it is today. Honestly, I didn’t think I would see another day with how my life was heading. From being abused both mentally and physically, I was able to know my worth and overcame all the negativity that I was facing. Now, I’m married to a wonderful man, have two beautiful children, and is fulfilling my dream in becoming a surgeon. I never thought it would be possible, but by the grace of God, I was able to see my dreams come true.

But is my life as perfect as I imagined it to be? Not by a long shot. With goals, they also come with obstacles that could discourage you from fulfilling them. I have endured several tests in my life to get to where I’m at. I thought they were over, but of course they never are.

I slowly rose out of bed to see the sunlight shining through my bedroom window. I looked over to see the bathroom light on and heard the water from the shower turning off, realizing that my husband, Marcus, was at home. I gave a tiny smile, glad that he was.

Since he resigned from his accounting job and decided to become a full-time club owner, I barely see him at home. The clubs that he co-owns with his brother Shawn, and cousin-in-law Jayden, is doing so well that they decided to open two new clubs in Atlanta. One is a 2,000 square foot club, which they opened almost five months ago, and their recent venture is a coffee house, which is something Marcus and Shawn always wanted to open. Between him going back and forth to Atlanta, and being in Baker and Houston, I’m starting to wonder if he’ll be at home for more than two days. I hope so, because I really miss him being at home when I do see him because my schedule isn’t any better. With my residency, I’m barely at home myself, so it seems as if we’re more roommates than husband and wife since we’re always missing each other.

The door opened, and Marcus walked out wearing only a towel. My heart started racing as I glanced at his hard, mocha chest. I slowly bit my lip, wishing I had time to rip that towel off of him and ride him senseless. But I only had an hour until I was going back to the hospital. Damn it!

He looked over at me and gave a sexy smile, which made me rethink my schedule. I could be late a minute or two. Or more.

I gave a wide grin as Marcus came over to me. “What’s with the wide grin?”

“I’m just happy to see my husband this morning.”

“Really, it is nice to see you in the morning, since you’re normally at the hospital.”

He leaned over, and his lips connected with mines. He gave a slight tug, and my pussy throbbed. Yeah, I’m going to be late.

“Did Kevin bring the kids back?” I whispered as I quickly tugged on his towel. It fell to the floor, exposing all of Marcus’ goodness. Damn, I missed him.

“Not yet, but he’s on his way.” Marcus whispered. His lips went to my neck, giving me gentle kisses down my collarbone. Since the two of us are always gone, my siblings, Kevin and Elise have been helping with taking care of Troian and Preston. Although I hate not being able to see them on a regular basis, hopefully all of my hard work will pay off so they could have a better life. I felt guilty before I started the program, but I really have been feeling it more recently, because I don’t want to make the same mistakes as my mother, Jackie did, when I was growing up. She was barely there for me, so I don’t want that to rub off on my kids, especially when they get older, because that will always be installed in them. Trust me, I know.

Even though I was on-call, I decided to come home to see if Kevin would had brought the kids back, but I guess I ended up falling asleep.

“Hopefully, I’ll see them before I leave again.” I said as I pulled Marcus to me. He pulled up my sleep-shirt as his fingers played with my clit. I closed my eyes, enjoying the feel as I laid down on the bed.

“He was going to bring them back last night, but I told him not to since you were asleep.”

I looked into Marcus’ gray eyes and sighed. “I really do hate this. I don’t want my kids to think we’re neglecting them.”

Marcus slowly sighed. “I know. That’s why I need to cut back on going to the clubs. One of us needs to be here.”

“But you still need to get the coffee house together.”

“I know, but I’m a parent first. The Phoenix in both Baker and Houston are running themselves and the Atlanta club is quickly thriving. I need to be at home more.”

“I should too.”

“And you will once your residency is over. We both agreed that you’ll get through it and I’ll take care of home.”

“But…”

“Baby, I know it’s hard, but it’ll be worth it once it’s over.”

“Even if my kids barely see me?”

Marcus swept some hair away from my face and sighed. “What if they get older and realize that we weren’t at home when they were growing up? That could make them hate us. I can’t have them go through what I went through growing up.”

“And they won’t. Baby, you are a good mother, so don’t ever forget that.”

“How am I when I only see them for a few hours a week?”

Marcus gave me a kiss on the forehead and I sighed. “You’re not Jackie, Cher. Don’t ever compare yourself to her, okay.”

Although Marcus was saying the right things, it wasn’t making me feel any better.

“Not in the mood now, huh?” he asked.

I shook my head and he gave me a hug. “It’s okay. Besides, I have to make a call to Nisha to find out if the liquor shipment came in,” he said. He cupped my chin and gave me a slow, yet sexy kiss. He caressed my clit, teasing me while kissing the tip of my earlobe.

“If only we didn’t have a busy day today, I would have you cumming in every position possible.”

Fuck it.

I pulled him down on me and spread my legs to invite him in. I grabbed onto him, feeling his hardness as I stroked him. I haven’t had sex with my husband in almost two weeks, so this was long overdue.

He slowly found his way in me while giving me gentle kisses to my neck and chest.

“Two weeks is too damn long, baby,” he whispered.

My heart was still racing as we slowly found our groove together. My nails clawed his back as I titled my head. This felt too damn good, that’s why I knew this wasn’t going to last. My thoughts became true when my pager started beeping on the nightstand. I closed my eyes, wishing I could throw that piece of metal out the window.

“Ignore it, please.” Marcus whispered.

I wanted to, but I knew it was important. “I can’t baby.”

“Fuck,” Marcus sighed.

He held me as the pager continued to go off. The doorbell began ringing as well as we knew it was Kevin and the kids.

“I guess it wasn’t happening anyway,” he said.

I gave a tiny smile as Marcus gave me another kiss on my forehead. He quickly got up and found some clothes that were on the armchair. I had to quickly get ready so I could make my way to the hospital, but I had to see my kids before I go. Even if it was for a quick second, at least they were going to see me.

To get you ready for the new story, here is an unedited excerpt from Marcus’ POV. 🙂

Kevin and I talked for a few minutes until he had to head to the club. Since I was paying his salary, he figured he didn’t want to piss me off by staying at my house any longer, but I didn’t care. I needed the distraction, especially with what happened this morning.

I was watching the kids as I dialed Nisha to ask about the shipment at the Phoenix in Atlanta. Nisha has been the best employee ever since she started working there. At first, I was skeptical about hiring her; she was fresh out of college, and really didn’t care about the business aspect with working at The Phoenix; she only wanted to have fun. But since I got to understand her reasons and her life story while attending college, I figured I’ll give her a chance. I’m glad I did, because she has become a valuable asset to the club. I even gave her the task of handling some of the things needed at the lounge while I wasn’t in town. She has stepped up her business game, which I appreciate.

I put the phone on mute as I went to the living room to stop Troian from hitting Preston. It looks as if she took one of her blocks, which I’m sure she didn’t like.

“Stop it, you two! I saw what you did, Preston, so apologize. Troian, I’m going to put you in your chair so you can’t be hitting Preston.” I said.

While Preston just turned five and Troian almost one, it’s becoming a challenge to get those two to behave. With Troian, she doesn’t know any better, but I think Preston is slowly starting to act out to get attention. That’s why I’m trying hard to further myself from the business so I can be there more for my kids.

“Marcus! Hello, Marcus!”

I forgot I put Nisha on mute as I fumbled to unmute her so I could speak.

“Hey, Nisha. Sorry, I had you on mute. I was stopping my kids from hurting each other.”

I could hear Nisha’s lips going to a smile as she gave a huge sigh. “I can relate. My sister has three kids, all a year apart. She constantly has to break up a fight every five seconds.”

“I can understand sibling rivalry but with my kids, I think it goes a little deeper.” I said while watching Preston. He had a mean pout on his face as I went up to him.

“You still haven’t apologized.”

“Why?”

I looked taken aback by his remark as he folded his arms across his small chest. I don’t know what to say because I was still shocked that he was being smart with me.

“Little boy, I don’t have time for your smart mouth. Apologize to your sister, now.”

“She’s one; she doesn’t know what the word means.”

“But you’re her big brother; you need to set an example for her.”

Preston rolled his eyes and I took a deep breath. I don’t know where this little boy got this attitude from, but it’s not cute.

“You’re in time-out.” I said as I grabbed his chair near the couch. I put it in the corner and told him to go to it. He refused, so I told him again to go, but he refused again. I gently grabbed his arm and told him to sit there for five minutes. I didn’t want to raise my voice at him to go, but maybe that’ll get him to go next time.

I glanced over at Troian, who was clapping her hands and laughing. She knew completely well what was going on. I shook my head, forgetting again that I was on the phone.

“Sorry about that. Preston has been acting out lately.”

“I understand. Remember, I got a sister with kids.”

“He recently been doing this. I know it’s because of his mom and me being busy with work.”

“You might want to cut back on work, then. I know your wife’s becoming a doctor, so it’s harder for her to scale back.”

“I know,”

“That’s why I’m here if you need anything. Just say the word and I’ll do it.”

“You’re doing enough, Nisha.”

“I don’t mind. Besides, I enjoy the distraction. It’s just me, so I don’t mind the extra work.”

I sighed as I looked at my kids again. The doorbell rang, which startled me because I wasn’t expecting anyone.

“Maybe you should get that. Just call me back when you can.”

“Okay, but before I hang up, did the shipment come in for the club?”

“It just arrived, so I have to hang up anyway.”

“Okay. Thanks, Nisha.”

“No problem.”

I disconnected the call and opened the door to see my mom outside. She was smiling, but it disappeared once she noticed my expression.

“What’s wrong, baby?” she asked as she walked in.

“Everything is fine, Mom.”

“You know you can’t hide anything from me. You’re my first born, so I know every expression.”

I sighed as I closed the door. “What brings you by?”

She glanced at me with a concerned look. “I have to have a reason to come by to see my son and grandkids?”

I tilted my head and she sighed. “I came to check on you. I know the past few weeks have been rough, so I want to lighten the load for you”

I stared at my mom, realizing something wasn’t right. Although she and my dad have helped out with watching the kids, they haven’t been lately, which was the reason the two been going to Kevin’s and Elise’s.

“I should be asking you how you’re doing. You usually call before you visit, so something’s up.”

My mom gave a nervous chuckle as I glanced at her. “Mom,”

“This used to be my house, so I can come when I want to.”

I gave her an unconvinced look. Yes, this used to be her home as my dad purchased it for her as an anniversary gift. They gave it to me to live in a few years back, but neither of my parents dropped by before calling.

My mom rolled her eyes and went into the living room. She took a quick look at the kids and shook her head. “What’s going on?”

“Nothing, just Preston misbehaving again.”

“Again! I told you really need to discipline him. When you were his age, you knew you had got a good swift kick in your behind.”

“That’s considered child abuse now.” I pointed out.

“It was considered that then, too, but your dad and I still did it.”

“I’m not going to do that, Mom. Preston knows right from wrong; he’s just doing this because Cheryl and I aren’t at home a lot.”

My mom sighed and sat down on the couch. Troian started wailing and she went over to pick her up.

“That is why I think I should move in, just until you and Cheryl get yourselves together.”

I looked at my mom, wondering if that’s a good idea. I don’t know if myself or Cheryl would want my mom around 24/7. We love her, but we know how she could be if she tries to take over.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“Why? Would you rather for the two to keep being bounced from house to house every time you two have to do your business? Kevin and Elise have their own lives to live, so let me be a grandmother to my grandbabies.”

“Grandma!” Preston exclaimed as he turned around and smiled.

“Keep your eyes on that wall, Preston!”

My mom sighed as she told Preston to get out of his chair. I shook my head, already becoming annoyed. If I agreed for her to stay, it’ll be a lot worse.

“Mom, Cheryl and I got this. Besides, how would Dad feel about this if you did?”

My mom blew out a hard breath. “He’s not a factor right now. We’re kind of having problems at the moment.”

“Wait, what?” I questioned. From my 28 years on Earth, I have never experienced the two to have problems. They’ll have their occasional spats, but never any major issues.

“That’s why we never wanted the kids to come by the house, because we don’t want them to sense any tension.”

“What’s going on, Mom?” I asked as I came over to her. She shook her head while waving her hand away.

“It’s nothing for you to be concerned about. We’ll work things out; right now, we just need some time apart.”

“Where’s Dad?”

“He’s still at the house, but he’ll be visiting your brother soon. Don’t mention anything to Shawn about this; you know how he gets.”

I sighed. I’ll still warn him about our dad making an unexpected visit to Atlanta, and I’ll still tell him why. Shawn maybe the youngest, but he’s not a little kid anymore.

“Did you get the invite to Nathan’s wedding? Him and Rachel getting married at the country club, so you know how that’ll go.”

I sighed again. Honestly, I don’t know if I did receive one, but I haven’t checked the mail in days. Although Shawn and I had our issues with our cousin in the past, we did bury the hatchet a few years back after our grandmother passed away. We maybe cool now, but with my busy schedule, I probably won’t be going.

“I probably won’t go.”

“I thought you all squash everything that happened with Shawn and Riana?”

“We did, but I might have to be at one of the clubs.”

“I’m glad you brought that up, because I have a favor to ask.”

“How did we jump from you and Dad to Nathan?” I asked.

“Evidentially, I don’t want to talk about your dad.”

“Mom…”

“Marcus, I tell you what’s going on when I’m ready. Anyway, your uncle wanted to see if you could throw Nathan a surprise bachelor’s party.”

“What?!” I asked. I already had enough going on as it is.

“Nathan doesn’t have too many friends, and majority of the force won’t be able to attend the wedding, so Nathan didn’t want a party, but since you and Shawn have a variety of clubs to choose from, I told your uncle it was fine.”

I gave my mom a crazed look as I ran a hand through my fade. “So, you volunteered our club? Why would you do that, Mom?! Not only should you had asked me first, but Jay is also the owner of every club now. He might have a problem with us throwing a party for Nathan.” I said.

My mom sighed. “Didn’t he bury the hatchet with Nathan, too? He shouldn’t be too upset anyway since Ri is happy with Shawn.”

“I get that, but…” I stopped midsentence when I noticed Preston wasn’t near my mom. I looked into the kitchen, seeing that he was trying to pull down the ceramic cookie jar from the counter. It slipped to the edge and fell on the ceramic tile, breaking the jar and part of the floor.

“Damn it! Preston!” I yelled.

I was about to go after him when my mom gently grabbed my shoulder.

“Go take care of what you have to with your clubs. I got this covered.”

“But, Mom…”

“Just go. And I’ll give you the details of the party. Make sure you tell Shawn because I want the both of you planning it as well as be at his wedding.”

“Mom…!”

“And be a dear and get my suitcases out of the car. I need to tend to your kids.”

The only thing I could do was stare at my mom as she went to go scold Preston. She still had Troian in her arms as she told him to get the broom and dust pan.

I sat down on the couch, still not believing what just happened. Not only did my mom just move in, but she volunteered mines and Shawn’s help to plan Nathan’s bachelor’s party!

“This is some bullshit,” I whispered as I stared ahead at the window.

Hopefully when Cheryl finds out about my mom being here, she doesn’t have a problem with it.

Coming March 8th!!

Hi everyone!! I mentioned I was going to post a few upcoming releases, so here is the second one that I’m working on, which is another spin-off from the Love, Life, & Happiness series titled Believe In Love.

26230446_1637339729657817_7906820370928484076_n

This time, it’s Cheryl and Marcus’ story; you may have remembered that there was going to be one after I previewed a potential story in Ri and Shawn’s story, Real Love.

The two have a lot going on with their busy schedules, so this story will be interesting to read with how they will adjust to everything with their careers, their kids, and other factors surrounding them.

Here is the extended preview of their story, Believe In Love:

Cheryl:

Marcus and I have been through a lot in our short relationship. No matter what issues occurred between us, we both found a way to get through them together.

In recent months, our lives have changed drastically, from becoming parents for a second time to our busy professional schedules, we’re finding it more difficult to spend time together. Now that I’m going into my residency, I’m having even more challenges trying to compete with my colleagues, including the arrogant and obnoxious Drew Harrison. With him constantly on my back, and the struggles accepting Jackie’s death, I feel as if I’m going to explode. I don’t know if I can talk to Marcus about it, especially when he has his own problems to deal with.

If I can’t talk to my husband, then who can I confine in?

Marcus:

Cheryl and I had a rough start to our relationship six years ago. From miscommunication to trust issues, the two of us were able to overcome our dilemmas and be there for one another.

Lately, things between us have started to fall apart. With our busy schedules, we barely have time to see each other, let alone have alone time. We did reconnect recently, but things are not the same between us. I want us to get back to what we had together. I need for us to.

Now that I’d opened a new club in another city, I’m spending more time there getting the new staff settled. There’s one person in particular that is helping me more than anyone, which is a good thing, but could be dangerous once Cheryl finds out.

I know she’s hiding something from me, which is driving me crazy; but should I be upset when I’m doing the same thing to her?

If you don’t remember their first standalone, Trust Me, it is available on Amazon, Nook, Smashwords, and other sites.

The Love Interviews- Riana & Shawn

SB-LUnbroken-Full-Print (1)

Hi everyone! I’m so excited to kick off The Love Interview series, which will be a week-long event featuring some of your favorite couples from my most popular series.

Today, I have no other than the couple who started it all for the Love, Life, & Happiness series, to start the first interview, Riana and Shawn.

***

SB: First off, I have to say thank you for being apart of this event.

Riana: It’s a pleasure, Sheena. Thank you so much for having us.

SB: Of course! I know both of your schedules are pretty busy these days. You just recently moved to Atlanta. How is that going for you two?

Shawn: So far, so good. Of course, it was a huge adjustment from being in Baker, but we’re managing.

Riana: Yeah, we are.

SB: You don’t sound so assuring, Riana. Is everything okay?

Riana: Of course. Like Shawn said, there has been a lot of adjustments that we had to make, but that’s part of the process of moving to a new city.

SB: I must say, I completely fell in love with you and Shawn when Love Unbroken was released. You two had such a raw chemistry that was so beautiful. Tell me, what made you two instantly click?

Shawn: Besides the fact that Ri is beautiful, she has a wonderful soul that you will instantly gravitate to. I knew when I first saw her that she was going to be in my life forever.

Riana: I felt the same way about Shawn. I tried hard to deny it, but I couldn’t anymore. I knew he was the one for me who accepted all of me and loved me for the person that I am.

SB: You two remind me so much of myself and my fiancé, especially you Shawn. He does spoken word as well; so I have to ask, do you still do it, since your schedule is so jam packed now?

Shawn: I don’t do it as much as I would like, but I try to write something every now and then. Maybe me and your fiancé should get together and compare a few poems one day.

SB: Really, wow. I’ll let him know. How’s your writing coming along, Ri? Are you cooking up any new stories lately?

Riana: I actually am. It’s top secret, so I can’t reveal anything just yet.

SB: I can respect that. I’m usually like that as well. How is Elis? Is he adjusting well in the ATL?

Shawn: Of course! I swear that little boy is just like me.

Riana: He’s not kidding.

Shawn: I mean with loving to try new things. He’s only four, but he’s an adult trapped in a little boy’s body.

Riana: That I can agree on.

SB: That’s really great to hear. What about the crew? How is everyone?

Riana: Everyone is good. In fact, you’ll be seeing Cheryl and Marcus tomorrow, right?

SB: Yup! I can’t wait to talk to them. I’m sure they have a lot going on as well.

Riana: They do; with Cher in med school and Marcus with The Phoenix ATL, their lives are pretty hectic. As for everyone else, they’re all doing fine. We’re hoping everyone can come to Atlanta soon to visit.

SB: I’m sure that will be great. Well, I think we got off track a bit with the interview. You have a book coming up titled Real Love which is about part of your move to Atlanta. I have to say, what you both have experienced was pretty intense.

Shawn: It was, but of course, we always try to see the positive in everything, right baby?

Riana: Of course. All relationships are not perfect, but it’s how you manage them and work out your issues before they escalate are important. We don’t hide anything from each other; never have and never will.

SB: Didn’t Shawn hide the fact that he was Alpha Man when you two were on Spoken?

Shawn: Besides that.

Riana: Things have really progressed between us after that. We’re a much better unit after that.

SB: I’m glad. Communication is so important in a relationship. Without that and trust, there’s no relationship.

Riana: That’s true.

SB: You both have a lot of readers who are anxious for this story. What can we all expect from this book?

Shawn: There are a lot of things that the two of us try to deal with both personally and professionally. With me, I began a new position with a new network in which I’m an anchor with and I come across a lot of different situations with my co-worker as well as with the producer of the network.

Riana: Yeah. I still don’t like that co-worker of yours.

Shawn: Do we really have to do this now, Ri?

Riana: I’m just saying.

SB: What’s with your co-worker, Shawn?

Shawn: That I don’t want to discuss right now, but I can say that she’s quite the handful.

Riana: You can say that again. And to think we used to be friends.

SB: Whoa! What?

Shawn: Can we move on, please?

SB: Sure. So anything else you would like to add, Ri?

Riana: Well, readers will be able to catch up with the crew again in this story as well as Roland and Carolyn. They visit us, which is always a treat.

Shawn: Yup, Mom and Dad are quite the pair.

Riana: Lol. They definitely are.

SB: Will you two be doing any singing in this story?

Riana: We will, especially Shawn. The network found out that he could sing, so they asked if he could be one of the acts for their celebration gala. It was nice. That and there’s also another time when he pulled a performance on-air.

SB: Really.

Shawn: There’s a reason for it.

SB: It must be a good one if Ri is smiling.

Riana: It is.

SB: Well, I have to say it was quite the honor to interview you two. I really enjoyed it.

Shawn: Thank you for the opportunity.

SB: And I still want to know who the co-worker is.

Shawn: You have to read the story to find out.

SB: I definitely will. Make sure to one-click Real Love, which will be available only on Amazon April 25th. If you have never read these two love story, you can pick up the very first story in the Love, Life, & Happiness series, Love Unbroken, which is available now.
