1. What inspired you to become an author?

Writing comes from my soul. I wouldn’t be myself if I wasn’t a writer. I really believe it’s my calling and fate. I write the genres I write in because I enjoy them and the interest comes from the heart. I write BWWM books because I strongly support interracial relationships. This is a personal lifestyle choice so of course I wanna write something that I’m interested in and that reflects me. That’s why my books come from the heart concerning that aspect. I wanted to write stories that showcase couples in BWWM relationships for readers interested in them.

2.  What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

My debut novel was published by Simon and Schuster so I was elated. I couldn’t believe it had finally happened because I’d worked so hard for years trying to get someone to notice my work. Unfortunately, my mother passed away around the time the book was released so emotionally I wasn’t there. I was still proud but because of the difficult loss, I became detached from what I’d accomplished and though it was my first novel published, it will always link to a very difficult part of my life.

3. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I don’t like to answer these types of questions. LOL! I’ve been in the writing business 20 years now, and I’ve learned that you can’t plan on anything careerwise or in life. We can hope things turn out as planned but life always throw curveballs so I just go with the flow and execute my goals to the best of my ability from day-to-day.

4. Since you participated in the 31 Days 31 Authors event last year, has anything changed with your career since then?

Not really, I am still grinding and releasing books and doing my best to keep work going.

5. Do you have any new projects that you are currently working on?

I have completed three installments of the Stripped Series. I am looking for the entire series to be around 4-5 books. Captured (Book 2) is available now and will release October 17th. You can pre-order it at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0751HZN4M/ref=series_rw_dp_sw

I have also completed a Christmas story I will be releasing in Dec. and am getting ready to work on a standalone.
6. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?

The best advice I would say is to make sure you are writing from the heart and if you aren’t then you won’t last in this business because it’s tough. Also, everyone should research the craft and business side of writing. Be prepared to continue learning and growing because that’s the key to being a good writer.

Excerpt from Stripped:
(Winston confronts Jonathan)

Jonathan walked in wearing a black, crew-neck T-shirt and slim-fitting black slacks. “Am I interrupting something?”

“No.” Shauna jumped, rushing to him. “How are you, darling?” She kissed his cheek. “This is Detective Winston Lewis.”

“We finally meet.” Jonathan’s silver-gray eyes danced. “I’m Jonathan Wild. Welcome to my home.”

“Thanks.” Winston kept a stiff tone. “Stay away from Dee.”

Jonathan grinned, glancing at Shauna. “He’s forward like me. I like that, Winston.”

“Don’t make me repeat myself.” He squinted. “Stay away.”

Jonathan patted Shauna’s cheek. “Give us a moment.”

Shauna smiled at Winston, his gaze following her out the room.

“You like what you see?” Jonathan stood next to Winston. “Shauna I mean?”

Winston broke his stare from the door.

“Don’t feel guilty. She’s a beautiful woman. She had me speechless the first time I met her.”

“I have no interest in anyone here. What you’re doing to Dee, it’s not happening, Jonathan. I’m not standing by while you manipulate her.”

“Are we talking about the same woman?” His brows met his forehead. “Because the Deidra Quarter I know wouldn’t let anyone manipulate her.”
“You don’t know a damn thing about her.”

“Did Tran offer you any refreshments—”

“I’m not playing with you.” Winston stood chest-to-chest with him. “Dee’s my woman, and I’m not letting any man take her away from me.”

“Does she realize you think of her as property?” Jonathan sauntered across the stone floor. “I’m flattered to see I threaten you.”

“Kiss my ass. I’m not threatened but you will be if you don’t leave Dee alone.”

“What am I doing to her?” Jonathan stood by the chimney with his arm propped on the mantel. “She’s the one who keeps coming by even when it has nothing to do with the case. You should have this conversation with her.”

“I’m having it with you.” Winston lifted his chin. “You don’t wanna go there with me. I will do whatever I have to, to protect my relationship.”
“Well.” Jonathan made a fist, mocking. “Deidra brings out the animal in you, huh? She’s a grown woman who makes her own decisions. If she wants to see me, then she’ll see me and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

“Why am I getting so worked up?” Winston chuckled. “It’s obvious you’re the killer and doing this to throw Dee off her case.”

“Oh, no.” Jonathan rubbed his buzz cut. “I’m a lover, not a killer. My interest in Deidra has nothing to do with the investigation.”

“I’m warning you.” Winston rushed toward him. “Stay the hell out of our lives.”

“Does Deidra love you?”

Winston gaped, wondering what his angle was for the question. “Of course.”

“Then why so upset?”

“Because you can make her believe anything. That’s what you do with women isn’t it, Jonathan? You got self-esteem issues or something? Think a woman won’t want you unless you manipulate her and lock her in your compound?”

He lowered his head, smirking. “These women beg for my attention.”

“Yeah, because they’re brainwashed and can’t tell if they’re coming or going.”

Jonathan passed a dirty look. “Most times they’re coming.”

1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

Dancing, reading, and traveling.
2. What inspired you to become an author?

My love for reading led to me writing my first story. I fell in love with creating storylines that shed light on issues that we deal with day to day in a fun, appealing way.
3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

I was so excited to see my book on Amazon, you would have thought I hit the lottery.
4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I have a love for writing, so I see myself still writing. Hopefully, with 100 stories published and at least one new hit stage play based off one of my novels.

Write your ideas down daily and start writing the ones that resonate with you the most. Then, start planning your writing time with goals in mind (one chapter a day…or week). Before you know it, you will have a manuscript, but that will only happen if you get started.

Kayla
Standing in front of a classy boutique, I’m window shopping for a sexy black dress. I’m in search of the perfect “single again” gift to somehow, some way, make me forget the last year ever happened. From this day forward, it’s all about me. I will no longer give myself away to a man that doesn’t appreciate me. I intend to enjoy this newfound freedom to the fullest. My favorite earring slipping from my ear shatters that wish. When I turn around to find handsome, elegantly dressed, Rusty von Strauss holding my favorite piece of jewelry in his hand, my constitution slowly slips away. Looking into his ocean blue eyes, I immediately know that Rusty is a one-man wrecking crew. He finds his way in, breaks down my walls, and makes me believe in magic again. But, will his biggest secret ruin all the love we make?

Rusty
Everything was going great. Until I fell for her…
A stray piece of jewelry lying on the ground gives me a unique opportunity. It’s ridiculously presumptuous of me, but I have to find out if she’ll, at least, have a cup of coffee with me. The view from behind her is impeccable, but I wait patiently to get a full glimpse of the beauty that accompanies her lusciously long, ebony legs. When Kayla Johnson faces me, I’m in awe of the way her beauty strikes me. But that’s all it is—a fleeting feeling. Right? Nothing that will last past that coffee, dinner, and an all-nighter at my penthouse. After losing my one true love, I made an oath to never love again. My resolve is stronger than ever. I refuse to fall into the trap of that L-thing. Giving my heart away yields consequences I’m not willing to pay. If all of this is true, then why does the thought of never holding Kayla in my arms rattle my core?

Expect a sexy, sweet standalone romance that tugs at your heartstrings in Earned by the Billionaire by Shani Greene-Dowdell, Amazon Bestselling Author of Breathless: In Love with an Alpha Billionaire.

SHANI AND THERESA 1 TO THE WOMAN HE LOVES[5206][9538].jpg

Ronan Michaels is fine as aged red wine. I’m talking wavy, chestnut brown hair, strong chiseled jawline, prominent shoulders and rugged ivory skin kissed by the sun. His silver eyes are enough to make any woman swoon. All the women wanted him, but he chose me… “his rarest, precious Ruby of them all.”
Our wedding day was like a classic fairytale. Ronan, my gallant knight, made me feel like an African Queen. He made me feel beautiful, sexy and oh so desirable. His silver gaze held me captive from the beginning. Even now, when it feels like the end, I remember gazing into his eyes filled with promise as he vowed his love and devotion to me for a lifetime. I believed him.
Secrets and lies have a way of destroying lives and marriages, and making what was once a happy home miserable and unbearable. My secrets…my lies cost me a price I wasn’t willing to pay. Who would’ve ever thought our happiness and love for each other would end up at this point? Not me, Ronan’s sweet Ruby. I never would’ve guessed my best days were behind me and I have only myself to blame. I’m in for the fight of my life… win, lose or draw.
This is a re-release of Billionaire Wives Club.

Excerpt from The Woman He Loves 1:

To The Woman He Loves,

I’m writing this letter with tears in my heart and a heart that is heavy as lead. I contemplated writing this letter to the other woman, to the woman who seems to have stolen my husband’s heart from beneath me. So many emotions are warring through my head and heart right now. I want to hate you and lash out at you with all the hatred that is coursing through my veins like venomous poison.

Even in all this beauty around me, the sand that glitters beneath my feet and the sunlight gleaming down on me brightly from above, it’s not enough to lessen the pain that fills my heart brought on by you and Ronan. I look around at the seagulls dashing to and fro as the waves flow in the distance and think I should be enjoying this moment with the love of my life.

I think of how I should be in this place kissing my husband under the crowning sunsets and frolicking in the water with our wet bodies plastered to one another like newlyweds. I think of how we can’t keep our hands off of each other long enough to get back to our room to make love, to make beautiful and wonderful love, so he takes me beneath the glorious stars as he makes love to me slowly but passionately. But because of your indiscretions, I’m on this beach alone, sitting beneath this umbrella with tears staining my cheeks, knowing that you don’t give a damn about the pain you have caused from your selfishness.

Ronan is my husband, yet I’m sure you feel as if I’m the intruder in this three-way relationship. I wonder how this could be possible when you’re the interloper. I hate myself for all of these nagging doubts of me no longer being woman enough for my husband. I hate myself for letting my already staggering self-esteem be shot straight to hell, all because of you.

I have a question for you, many questions really, but this one will suffice for the time being. Did you ever think about me and my children when you decided to lie down with my husband?

Your actions will hurt more than me. My children are my all, just like I once thought Ronan was and I was his. There go those nagging doubts again making me wonder if anything between me and Ronan was real for all of these years.

I have given the best years of my life to this man. I made some bad choices when I kept a very important secret from him. Why I’m telling you this is beyond me, but I need to let it out. See, it was during this time that you found a weak link in our fence and you entered to destroy the sanctity of our marriage. I know he’s more at fault, but you know about me. You met me at the company party and smiled in my face.

I felt that maybe if I explained this to you it would help me own up to my own part in this mess. I’m not going to linger in giving you insight into my reality, so here are the facts. My annual exam showed I had stage one squamous cell carcinoma on my right ovary. I hid this fact from my husband because of the way my parent’s marriage ended when I was a young girl. I even went as far as to have surgery without him knowing. The surgery removed it all, thank God. The problems started when my body needed time to heal. I know, as surely as I am breathing, this is when you entered the picture.

The devil found his way in through my secrets and lies.I own my part in this; I should have trusted my husband. These”should haves” plague me deep in my soul. I guess I am appealing to your sense of morals to walk away from my husband. I still love him with all of my heart, but I must know that I have his heart.

If you’re any kind of woman, you will allow him to go and let him recommit himself to our marriage and family without further temptation.

From a woman who still loves her husband,

Ruby Michaels

Coming Soon!!

Hi everyone!! If anyone was keeping up during The Love Interview series, I did an interview with Hayley and Morgan from the Something Just Ain’t Right series. The two did mention about a novella that they will be featured in later this year. Well, I have been working on a few project lately, and their story is one of them. Hales and Morgan will be back in the Something Just Ain’t Right novella, Just Right.

Here is the cover in which I created myself. 🙂

Just Right

I do not have an official release date, but it will be sometime this summer (possibly in July or August). This story will be released before If It Isn’t Love (Tamara and Lamar’s story), so it’s best to read this story before reading the spin-off, as Tamara and Lamar’s story will be introduced in the novella.

I will be uploading the blurb and the first excerpt from the book soon, so stay on the lookout for those items. As for this story going on pre-order, I’ll keep you all updated on that.

I do have another surprise for this series, which I will announce very soon. 🙂

interview

1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

I love listening to music, watching movies, especially in the theater, spending time with my family, reading, and sleeping, lol.

2. What inspired you to become an author?

I’ve had a talent for writing for as long as I can remember, but began taking writing seriously in 2009 after some introspection and a growing desire to know my true calling. I found it and true joy in writing. Never thought about becoming a published author until I shared my work with some co-workers and saw their reactions to it. I started maybe thinking I was onto something good. 26 books later, I’m still here.

3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

I experienced a mixture of elation and fear. I was happy the process was over and my baby was finally being presented to the world, petrified at how people might react to it.

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Prayerfully, I’ll still be making a living as writer, but a much better living. A couple of movie options would be nice.

5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?

Find your unique voice and own it. Rather than trying to emulate other writers, embrace your individuality, because in a literary world as saturated as this one is with writers and books, you need to stand out. Most of all, never give up on your dreams and be thankful for your supporters and readers, no matter how large or small the number.

excerpt1

Excerpt from No Pain, No Gain

During “Isn’t She Lovely”, Vance sang along with Stevie, tone-deafly serenading me with tenderness in his eyes. When the song was over, he leaned in and gently kissed my lips.

It couldn’t have been a better night. As a matter of fact, I was poised to mark it down as one of the best days of my life, until…

Stevie sang “Lately”, and it felt like a ton of bricks hit me square in the chest. I should’ve realized he would sing it. I should’ve prepared myself. I should’ve been ready.

But I wasn’t.

I fell back into my seat as soon as he began to sing the lyrics. “Lately” was his favorite song, but it was Jodeci’s version that he’d put on repeat and blast often. He’d sing along or slow dance with me. That song catapulted me into the past so quickly that I actually felt a little light-headed. I was so overwhelmed that during the second verse, I left my seat without even telling Vance where I was going, headed to the concession stand, and returned with a cup of beer.

And I don’t even like beer.

I guzzled it down, and though I didn’t enjoy it one bit, I soon found myself making my way back to the concession stand for another one. In total, I had five cups of beer before the concert’s end. The walk back to the car was so unsteady, I had to lean against it and catch my breath before climbing inside.

“Did you enjoy yourself?” Vance asked as I settled into my seat and he started the car.

“Eeeeyepppp!” I giggled.

“I didn’t know you liked beer so much.”

“Neither did I.” I hiccupped and let out a long burp.

He smiled. “Seatbelt, please. You’re precious cargo.”

I fumbled with the seatbelt before letting it flop back in its place and blowing out a frustrated sigh.

“Let me help.”

As he leaned across me to grab the seatbelt, I kissed his neck. He stopped and stared at me, and I took the opportunity to kiss his lips. A millisecond later, he was kissing me back, wrapping his long arms around me.

When we finally parted, I said, “Justin is spending the night with my folks. Let’s get a room.”

He stared at my lips. “Okay.”

SHAKEN (Book 1)

There’s something to be said for lust at first sight.

Redd wasn’t looking for Mr. Right but Mr. Right now. But the moment Nikko walked into her bar she felt that first rush of need. She wasn’t shy about getting what she wanted even if only for one night, which was all her chaotic lifestyle would allow. Besides, not many men wanted to date a woman who worked in a strip club, even if she were the bartender. It tended to make them sneer. She didn’t know which was worse. When they found out she was part owner or when they found out she was a law student. That intimidated the hell out of some. She didn’t really give a damn.

Nikko wasn’t looking for anyone. His life was full as the senior associate at a law firm and he just found out he was being considered for partnership. His life was about to become even busier. Then something happened that left him shaken. What should have been one night of uninhibited pleasure became a weekend, then it became more. How the hell did that happen? And did he want it to stop?

Shaken is also book 1.5 in The Young Guns Series.

Well, that had been me, and it certainly had lasted for more than a moment. I’d decided to pledge myself to God and help others in his name. Selfless, that was me and I was weeks away from taking my final vows. Then something happened, I met someone and suddenly I questioned everything.

I’ve always lived my life on my terms. Granted, I never thought I’d grow up to be a male stripper. But what the hell, I made good money and now, I had a shot at something more. And the women. Yeah, I loved women but they came and went. I preferred it that way. Didn’t matter which of us left first, as long as one of us did. I didn’t do attachments. Then something happened. I’m no saint, but I saved someone and wanted an attachment. Only to find out I could never have her.

Chapter 1 Excerpt

“Thank you again for coming, Lani,” Corrine said, giving me a quick hug.

“Yes,” Lara added, kissing my cheek. “Thank you. Love you. Feel better.” She squeezed my arm.

“I will. Love you too.”

“Want me to help you get a cab?” Lara asked

“No, I’ll just call one.”

“Okay. Text me once you get home,” Lara said.

I rolled my eyes. “Sure, sure.” It’s not like I lived alone. I hadn’t moved out of our parent’s house yet. I wouldn’t until I took my novitiate vows in a month, but I worked everyday and went to church every other day. Only returning to our parent’s house in time for dinner and to sleep.

I made my way to the elevator while my sister and her companions went in the other direction to one of the rooms for the strip show. Part of me was a little curious and wanted to see one, but the other more practical part of me knew I shouldn’t. Having a drink in a bar was one thing, watching the strip show, well something else entirely. Besides, the world seemed a little tilted. I stepped onto the elevator and leaned against the side to right myself. I’d just pressed the button for the first floor when someone stepped on. My head ached so much I couldn’t even glance up to see who I shared the ride with. I stared at the floor and could see the dark shoes and pants legs, the size hinted at a man.

The door closed, the elevator dropped and my body swayed but I didn’t fall.

The man who now stood behind me said, “Whoa!” He held onto my waist as though to steady me.

“Tha—thank—y…” Something was wrong with my voice. My words didn’t come out right. How much did I have to drink? The elevator door opened and I took a step forward to get out when the entire floor spun up to meet my face, but strong hands held onto me.

“I got ya.”

“Everything okay?”

A male’s voice asked, one I didn’t recognize.

“Yeah, she’s fine. Just a little too much to drink.”

I didn’t recognize the one who answered either. “Na…” I wanted to protest, but the arms holding me up were the only reason I could walk forward. I leaned against his strength, depending on it.

I felt myself being placed in the back of a car. The scent of smoke and stale air made me want to puke. “Cab,” I muttered.

“Yeah, cab.”

Hands reached across my lap to snap my seatbelt, pausing to stroke my breasts. Wrong this was all wrong. “Nooooooo!” I cried out.
