Hi everyone! Hope you all are having a great day so far.
Wow, I can’t believe it has been seven years since I published my very first book, In Love With My Best Friend. At that time, I wasn’t thinking about having a career as an author; I just wanted to fulfill my goal by releasing a book. Little did I know, that one book turned into several series, and forty two books total. I had some ups and downs in my career, but nevertheless, I don’t regret what I have went through to get to where I am right now.
To the readers who have stuck by me since the very beginning, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for giving me a chance to share my stories and to let me be myself. Although some of my stories were a bit off the wall, I’m still grateful and blessed that you all continued to support me.
As I continue my journey, I just hope that I can continue to write stories that readers can enjoy, because I still have a lot in me to share.
Again, thank you. 🙂

But, she’s determined to make Morgan hers, even if it destroys the relationship she has with her brother and the life-long friendship between the two.

Mystery & Suspense, Romance
What happens when the chaos ends and their normal life begins?
It has been three years since Hayley and Morgan Carter experienced the
turmoil caused by Morgan’s family. Now that the threats,
kidnappings, and shootings are behind them, the two can now live a
normal life with their two-year-old son, Morgan Jr. While Hayley is
living her dream as an event coordinator for a high-profiled company,
Morgan decided to go into law enforcement and become a detective.
With their lives slowly falling into place, the two will soon find
out that things are not what they seem.
As the two receive some surprising news from a former nemesis, they must
decide what is best to protect themselves and their loved ones. Will
the two result back to their former lives to keep their happily ever
after, or will it be too late?
A lot of people take that word for granted. Some do it because they’re scared to be loved by someone, or feel that they shouldn’t be. I have felt that way before, all because of the things I have done. I never thought I was worthy of it.
Until I met Hayley.
Hayley is and always has been the love of my life. When I first laid eyes on her, I knew she would be the one for me, but I let my personal views on love and life get in the way of happiness. When she made me realize how precious life can be, I let all of my past feelings go and just lived. That’s something I haven’t done in a long time. Since I have been with Hayley, I never looked back. Even with all of the bullshit that has happened with us, our love became stronger, which I’m happy for every single day.
Since Hales and I got married, we have been living a pretty normal life. We have a two- yea r-old son, Morgan Jr., who we call MJ. That boy is certainly a handful but I enjoy being a father to him. It’s definitely the highlight of my day. Not only are we parents, but Hales is working as a private event consultant with a high-profiled agency, while I took an extremely different career path. I decided to become a cop.
Yep, a cop.
After the incidents concerning my family, I wanted to give back to society in some sort so I decided to go to the academy. Throughout the training, I kept wondering if I was doing the right thing, but when I looked at what I have been through and the future that I will have with my family, I knew I was making the right decision. Two years later and I was promoted to being a detective. With my new title, I knew one thing I wasn’t going to do and that was abuse my badge like my so called father did. To be honest, I think that was another reason why I went into law enforcement.
Sometimes, I have to laugh at the life that I’m living right now. Me, Morgan Carter, the former womanizer, is talking about happiness and love and living a normal life. That’s something I’ve never experienced, but I’m glad that I’m able to now.
I looked over to see Hayley staring at me. She is still as beautiful as when I first laid eyes on her all of those years ago. Her curly hair was now a honey brown color to match her honey skin tone. Her brown eyes looked into mine as she gave me a huge smile and leaned closer to me.
“Hey, baby. I didn’t hear you come in.”
“That was because you were asleep. Long day?”
I slowly sat up from the couch and looked around. I looked down at my clothes realizing that I was still wearing the suit that I’d gone to work in.
“You must really have had a long day if you’re still in your clothes.”
“I guess I laid down as soon as I walked in.” I slowly replied.
“Luckily MJ is staying with my parents tonight, or you probably would have forgotten to pick him up,” Hales said. She paused before speaking again. “Or did you forget that he was spending the night there?”
I sat up on the couch and ran my hand through my hair. “I guess it’s this case I’m working on. Between meeting with the Sergeant and working these damn stakeouts, I guess I just lost track of everything.”
Hayley smiled and sat down beside me. She motioned for me to turn so that my back was facing her.
“I guess a massage is in order then.”
“That would be nice.”
Once her hands were on my body, I immediately relaxed. Just having her near me was all I needed.
“I know you can’t talk about any of your cases, but…”
“You’re right… I can’t. As much as I want to I can’t jeopardize any type of information we have on certain suspects. Not just that but I don’t want to put you or MJ’s life in danger.”
“I understand, baby. I just wanted to understand how your days are with you working on the force. I still find it hard to believe that you’re on the force.”
I chuckled. “I think no one saw that coming.”
She turned me so I could face her again. She ran her fingers through my hair and smiled. “I know why you’re doing it, though. You needed to find a purpose for everything that has happened with your family.”
“Let’s hope I don’t have to deal with any of them again.”
“I hardly doubt it. With Travis, Will, Caroline, and Sophia still in prison and Rick dead, that will be highly unlikely that you’ll come across any of them again.”
I leaned my back on the couch and sighed. “I have thought about it, though. Whether anyone would try and come after us again.”
“Hales, even though we have been living this perfect life, we still shouldn’t let our guards down. There could be other people out there who are working with Travis but just haven’t made their move yet.”
“Do you think you’re overreacting a bit? It’s been almost three years, baby. If anyone was going to do anything, they would have done so already.”
“Do you really think that? If anyone does make another move, cop or not, I will be ready.”
Hayley sighed. “Maybe I just got too comfortable with actually living a normal life compared to us always on the run looking over our shoulders.”
“I sort of forgot too, but just for a little while.”
Hayley leaned her head on my shoulder and I wrapped my arms around her. She gave a soft sigh.
“Should we be worried about this now, though? Your cousin is getting married next week, so whatever thoughts you’re having, you shouldn’t worry him about it.”
I caressed her shoulder, knowing she was right, but I can’t stop thinking about it, especially when I have information about Travis being released from prison. I didn’t know if I should tell Hales about it, especially since everything is going so good between us.
I’ll tell her when the time was right. Whenever that may be.
What is something unique/quirky about you?
I used to play the clarinet in middle school. I was really good at it. I also wanted to be a news reporter and did a news show for a local public access channel when I was in college.
What are some of your pet peeves?
People chewing with their mouths open, and leaving trash in my car.
What inspired you to write this book?
Just Right is a novella that is part of one of my series, Something Just Ain’t Right. I did the series over two years ago, and I figured I should write an update on the main characters of the series. It felt good to go back and write about how the couple of the series changed over the years and what they have accomplished after everything that has happened after the series ended. I think the readers of the series were also happy to read about how much the characters have changed and just to see how they are adjusting to life now.
What can we expect from you in the future?
I just wrapped up the third book, How Deep Is Your Love, from my current series, The Love Chronicles. This book is a romance/new adult novel that is a continuation of the main couple in the series. The story is an emotional roller coaster that readers will experience. I know I did while writing the story, so I know readers will feel the emotions throughout every scene.
Where were you born/grew up at?
I was born and raised in Houston, TX.
If you knew you’d die tomorrow, how would you spend your last day?
I would spend my last day with my family, and I would do all of the things that I would love to do, including bowling (if I can), going to the beach, and watching the sunset.
What do you do to unwind and relax?
I mainly listen to music to unwind. When I do, I’ll just put my earbuds in, lay back and just relax. Shopping also helps too, lol.
How to find time to write as a parent?
Writing when you’re a parent can be a challenge, lol. My son is 10, so I try to balance everything on a daily basis. I would usually write when he’s asleep, or on my days off from work. When I have a huge deadline, I would either try to write while I have some down time at work. That way, I wouldn’t have to worry about writing as much when I go home.
Advice they would give new authors?
My advice to new authors is to never give up on your dream. There will be critics and naysayers that will criticized your work, but don’t let that discourage you. Also, write because you love to do it, and not for the fame or money; because believe me, sometimes writing is not all it’s cracked up to be. You must have patience and thick skin to be in this industry; if you do it for the wrong reasons, then you shouldn’t be doing it at all.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing for about 27 years, since I was 9, but I have been a published author for four years.
Describe yourself in 5 words or less!

Mason Dunn, born in Bossier City, Louisiana, received her undergraduate degree from Texas College in Business Administration and earned a graduate degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma. She is an established professional at Florida A&M University, where she has been employed for the last eleven years. Before joining the staff at Florida A&M, she worked for 12 years as a higher education counselor for the military while traveling with her husband before he retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years of service. The breadth of her personal and professional experiences have contributed enormously to her fascinatingly inspirational writings.

Mrs. Dunn participated in many writing and speech competitions in her younger years. She traveled her home state of Louisiana participating in numerous contests, winning many of them. One of her most memorable competitions was the “Voice of Democracy Contest”. Mrs. Dunn was originally interested in journalism until she took her first accounting class in college, which catapulted her career in a different direction. However, inspired by her award-winning sister, screen and play write, Judi Ann Mason (“Sister Act II; Back In The Habit”, “A Different World”, “I’ll Fly Away”), Mrs. Dunn never lost her love and passion of writing.

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I see myself as a full time author, inspirational speaker and writing coach in the next 5 years.
5. Do you have any new projects that you are currently working on?
I am working on my 3th book, A Family Dilemma. It will be released October 2017.
6. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?
I would advice anyone who wants to become an author to do three things. First, never give up. Second, learn all you can about the craft. And third, never give up.
Excerpt from Faithful Father:
Dani was nine years old when she was kidnapped from the front porch of her grandmother’s house. Her kidnapping had been carefully planned and her captors knew exactly how to entice her.
Most kids loved chocolate, and Dani was no exception.
She lived in an all-black neighborhood in Shreveport, Louisiana. An assortment of small red, gray, maple and white brick homes lined both sides of Madison Avenue. No two houses were alike. But they had one thing in common … the security that comes from being among your own kind in the racist south. One could exist for days and never see a white person outside of television. The community contained schools, shops, churches and even government services. Racial tensions were peaking in Shreveport in 1972. The Police Service Commissioner had blocked local civil rights movements and folks were trying to make it safely from one day to the next.
Even within the safety of their neighborhood, Dani was allowed to be in only one or two places-her house or her Grandmother’s house, which was two houses down. At any given time she could be found at one of the two homes.
Her best friend was Mrs. Beasley. Mrs. Beasley had a head made of vinyl. Her face was framed with square black plastic glasses. She was a blonde-haired baby doll with a soft blue and white polka dot body. They sat in our imaginary kitchen on the front porch of grandmother’s small, red-brick home. Sitting in the white metal tulip chair, Dani changed Mrs. Beasley into her new red dress.
The sound of a car slowing down in front of the house pulled Dani away from the land of make-believe. A two-door, white Chevy Impala pulled up and parked at the front curb and a woman got out.
The caramel-colored young woman walked toward Dani. She wore a tie-dyed tunic, white polyester bellbottoms, and she smiled at Dani the way a relative would smile when seeing a long-lost loved one.
The woman knelt down next to Dani and said, “I have something for you in my car.” Instantly, as she held Mrs. Beasley in my arms, Dani was scooped into the woman’s arms and into the parked car.
“Do you see that candy?” asked the woman, pointing to the back seat. Dani could see the bag of Hershey chocolates waiting for her.
Dani wondered how the woman knew that Hershey Chocolate bars were her favorite.
Dani jumped across the front seat toward the candy. The sweat from her legs squeaked against the vinyl seats as she made her way to the bag. Mommee would never allow her to eat candy before lunch. But Momme was at work and would never find out.
Before she could put the first piece of chocolate in her mouth, they were all three-including Mrs. Beasley-sitting in the car and speeding down the street.
Out of the rear window, Dani could see Grandmother’s house moving farther and farther away.
She never saw Mommee or Grandmother again.

Hi everyone!! We’re almost to the end of the 30 Days 30 Authors event, but there are six more amazing authors that you all should get to know.
Today, Kay Blake will be gracing the blog, as she shares her books and her journey as an author.
Now, here’s Kay! 🙂
Kay writes sassy, sexy and sweet contemporary and interracial romance. She is from arguably the greatest city in the world. (New York). She is a sarcastic sweetheart who prefers snuggling at home with a good book. She is a mom to three cubs.
Kay indulges in strawberry cheesecake, horror movies, Harry Potter, The Walking Dead, wrestling and of course a happily ever after.
- Besides writing, what else do you like to do
Not too long ago I received my bachelor’s in developmental psychology. I am an avid reader. I love books. I loved reading and the written word. I love movies. I love being around my cubs (my kids). So that is usually what I do when I’m not writing.
- What inspired you to become an author?
I love to write. I love the written word. I originally when I was younger wanted to be a singer, but that dream died once I realized I don’t like performing in front of people. After that I wanted to be a criminal prosecutor but after my first child, that changed. One of the things I have always done was write. I used to write songs, poems, short stories and fan fiction growing up. Writing gives me peace and I honestly enjoy telling a story.
- What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?
I first published a short story in 2014 which was cool, but I think when I first published my novella Second Time’s a Charm it was surreal. I couldn’t stop smiling. I had it in print and it was seriously amazing. There were no words for that excitement and pride I felt.
- Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Hopefully I will have a bigger audience of my work. I would love to be signed to one of the big five publishing houses. I just want to create stuff that people enjoy and if I can get a bigger reach and do so living comfortably that is my main goals for the next five years.
- What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?
Write. Everyday. Even when you don’t want to. Don’t expect things to be prefect. It won’t be. Don’t expect to be J.K Rowling tomorrow most likely that won’t happen. Keep working at your craft. Getting yourself out there and keep going. Also always be yourself in your work. Let your voice shine through in your words.
