Color of Love Blog Hop 2016 & Giveaway

Hi everyone! I hope you all are enjoying the start of the holiday season with lots of hugs and good cheer! Speaking of the holidays, not only is it the time to be in the festive mood, but also to celebrate the Color of Love blog hop! This is my first year participating and I’m so excited to be amongst such wonderful bloggers and authors!

Starting November 25th thru December 4th, not only do you get to meet some awesome authors, but you also get to win a ton of prizes through the blog hop giveaway. How cool is that?!

One of the reasons why I wanted to participate in this amazing event is because it celebrates multicultural and interracial love. With me being an author who writes in the both genres, I wanted to not only show my support, but also showcase my book collection. As an African-American author, I think this it is extremely important to offer stories about romance and diversity.

With all of my stories, not only do I write about romance, but also the journey a couple has to endure to reach their happily ever after. The road might be a bit bumpy at times, but I will always give my couples a happy ending. Why write a romance story if the ending is not a happy one, right?

Check out a preview to one of my stories, The Love Chronicles, which is a spin-off from my very first series, In Love With My Best Friend:

Andrea “Andie” Williams and Dexter Robinson have known each other since they were in diapers. While their parents are the best of friends, the two are barely even acquaintances. While Dexter is the most popular guy at Williamson High School and only cares about which girl he will sleep with next, Andrea is focused on getting into her dream college, Yale.

When they are placed together for an unlikely project, the two have to come together not only to pass their class, but also graduate. With a series of events surrounding them, they both realize that their first experience at love could be with the person who was right in front of them all along.

January, 2034

Senior year is the empirical time of your life when everything matters. From what college you choose to how you carry yourself around your peers, senior year pretty much makes or breaks the rest of your life. For me, anyway. And I guess I’m the only one who felt this way since my classmates only cared about who was throwing the next party or getting laid. That’s probably why I have the highest GPA in my class and am slated to be valedictorian. It’s an accomplishment I’d worked so hard to achieve.

It was the beginning of the new semester as we returned from winter break. This was our last semester before graduation, so the slackers better get a move on it if they want to actually graduate.

Speaking of slackers…

I stood by my locker as I watched Dexter coming down the hall with his “posse” as he called it. In my opinion, they were a bunch of losers who smoked weed all day. I’m surprised they made it to school on time.

He looked at me and rolled his eyes before going to his locker, which was across from mine.

“I don’t see how you grew up with him and never wanted to jump his bones.”

I looked over and saw my friend, Mashawn Peterson, standing by my locker. She was your typical dreamer who wanted some handsome guy to sweep her off of her feet and they live happily ever after. Even I know that only happens in fairy tales.

“Because Dexter Robinson has been with practically every girl, and possibly some teachers, at Williamson High School. Besides, unlike you, I’m not focusing on guys. I really have to buckle down and get my GPA up for Yale. I missed early entrance, so I’m trying to see if I can get in by the fall.”

“Why did you miss early entrance?”

“Because I wanted my SAT score to be 1600. I only made 1540, so I retook the test.”

Mashawn shook her head and sighed. “Always the perfectionist.”

“Which will pay off. Once Yale sees my credentials, they won’t have a choice but to let me into the program in the fall. I’m the poster child for the college elite.”

“What a bore!” Andrew Pierce, one of Dexter’s friends, yelled out.

“You need some fun in your life, and I’m willing to provide it, if you know what I mean,” his other friend, Damien Taylor, hollered while thrusting his pelvis.

I watched them make fools of themselves in the busiest hallway at Williamson. I shook my head and closed my locker.

“And this is the next generation that could be running this country. What a shame,” I muttered.

I stared at Dexter, who shook his head. “Leave her alone, and stop acting as if you two don’t have any common sense,” he scolded his friends.

They shrugged, and Dexter nodded at me. I rolled my eyes at him and headed down the hall. I looked behind me, quickly taking in everything about him: his deep mocha skin, chocolate eyes, the bit of facial hair that made him look older than 17, and his body, which was strong and muscular. I definitely wasn’t blind; he’d grown up from the little boy who tried to feed me booger sandwiches in second grade. He was fine, but we had grown apart since we were little. He’s more into girls and his social status and I’m more into my future.

“What was that?” Mashawn asked, looking from me to Dexter. She almost bumped into someone before falling into step with me.

“What was what?”

“That look you and Dexter gave each other.”

I shrugged. “It was nothing, Mashawn.”

“It was. I’m sure you still have a little crush on him.”

No. I never have. He was kind of like a brother to me.”

“God, you’re lucky. If I was you, I’d be climbing through his bedroom window every day and night. Did you ever do that, a la ‘Dawson’s Creek’?”

“Dawson who?”

“Oh my God! You’ve never heard of ‘Dawson’s Creek’? That’s nostalgic TV.”

“I told you, I don’t watch TV.”

“You really need to live a little. Anyway, Dawson and Joey were really good friends, and she used to come into his room through the window. That’s why I said that.”

“We only did that once, and that was because he was afraid of the dark.”

“How was he able to climb through since it was night?”

“I shined a flashlight. He almost fell, but he made it safely.”

I glanced back at his locker again, and he was now talking to some girl. Her hand rested on his bicep as he grinned widely.

The crowd was getting heavy, so I couldn’t see him anymore. I shook my head, wondering why I was even looking at him. We barely talked anymore and when we did, it was because we were around our parents; we didn’t have a choice.

I looked straight ahead and went to my first class. I had to stay focused, and I wouldn’t accomplish anything thinking about Dexter.

May I Suggest Blog Hop

Hi everyone! I’m excited to be a part of the May I Suggest Blog Hop through Stuck In Books! With this blog hop, I will be showcasing a couple of books that I think are pretty amazing, but instead of suggesting a particular book, I will be suggesting book series!

The Hudson Series by Colby Taylor

th (5)th (1)th (3)th (2)2370070724951681

One thing I love to read is a story about family and togetherness. No matter how many issues a family will have, at the end of the day, they will be there for each other, and this is what Colby Taylor’s The Hudson series have. Each book highlights a couple and explains the ups and downs they go through in their relationships. There are currently six books in the series, but there could be more to come in the future. For me, the stories can keep coming, because I am in love with this wonderful series!

Free Falling Series by Raven St. Pierre

23436543 (1)2343655123436556 (1)24326121

I fell in love with this series from the first book, Gravity. Samantha and A.J. share such a special relationship and for me, I saw how much the two has grown together as a couple as well as individually throughout the series. Although they had their share of ups and downs, they found their way back to each other and the series wrapped up nicely in the final book, Today. Tomorrow. Always. I love this couple and hate that the series ended!

Attractions & Distractions by Alexandra Warren

This series is about a young woman discovering herself through her college years. I think we all have been in that stage where we discovered ourselves in college (well, I have anyway). This is one of the reasons why I love this series because it reminds me of when I was in college and the fun I had with my friends. Of course I had my share of tough decisions and heartbreak, but that what make life unpredictable. That what this series is all about. I can’t wait until the third book is released!

Love, Life, & Happiness Series by Sheena Binkley

Processed with Moldiv

I’m not sure if I should be showcasing my own series, but I had to include it since it falls under the same theme that all of these books share. With this series, it’s all about having a great bond and being there for each other through the good and bad times.  Each book highlights a couple as they go through their journey to happiness. This is a feel good series that will not only make you think about your years in college, but also your very first love.

In Love With My Best Friend by Sheena Binkley

I couldn’t end this post without mentioning my other series, In Love With My Best Friend. This series also falls under the “family” theme. These four friends are not only that; they are also a tight-knit family. They celebrate their happy moments and help each other through their rough times. This series is the epitome of how long-lasting friendships should be and the love they all have for each other .

Now that I presented my favorite series, here is the giveaway that is associated with the hop. One lucky winner will receive a $5 Amazon gift card as well as an eBook copy of my very first book, In Love With My Best Friend. With the gift card, you can purchase one of the books above, or choose a book of your liking. The giveaway will end on May 15th, so make sure to enter soon!

Also, make sure to check out the other blogs that are participating in this great event:

Lucky IS Reading Giveaway Hop

Hi everyone!! I’m happy to be a part of this wonderful giveaway hop hosted by StuckInBooks.  Since my time has been limited due to writing, I haven’t had a chance to read much; but when I do, I have been lucky enough to come across a couple of great reads.

Here are a few of those books:

Alexis + men = disaster. At least, that’s how it’s always been. Still, she’s easily tempted by her new surroundings at the University of California to put a foot forward into the dating pool; just not her best one. Relationships and situation-ships quickly become a balancing act as she tries to survive her freshman year.

Jaden is something like an “it guy”, but not by choice. He would much rather live a quiet, normal life exactly opposite of the one the media portrays. So when he meets Alexis by chance, he instantly falls for her beauty, charm, and… normalcy. But he learns very quickly that dealing with her is anything but normal.

Tyree isn’t a man of many words; he prefers action. When, sweet, sexy, naive Alexis Martin becomes a resident in his dorm, he can’t help trying his hand at getting with her, even if she is a freshman.

Attractions and Distractions will take you on a bumpy ride through the struggles and triumphs of finding love on the college scene.

Simone is a woman on a mission: Stop being boring, and fall in love.

That’s easier said than done with no prospects on the table… or under the table… or near the table. Her luck changes when fellow neighborhood business owner Roman Taylor walks through the door of her flower shop.

Roman is single, successful, and sexy — everything Simone is looking for to embark on a whirlwind summer romance with the potential to spark an everlasting love.

But things are never as “perfect” as they seem, and Simone — and Roman — have to decide if they’re willing to risk their hearts when things get a little messy in their pursuit of a crazy little thing called love.

After the surprise engagement party for Mina and Brock, Gabby and Slim found themselves involved in a night of passion. When Slim awakens and finds Gabby gone, he decides then that he deserves better. But can he stay away from Gabby?

Gabby is busy battling skeletons from her past while dealing with her strong feelings from Slim. Slim reminds her so much of her father, that she is a afraid to take a chance on what they feel. The treatment she watched her mother receive from her father was something she always said she wouldn’t tolerate. She knows she deserves better.

Watch as this love story unfolds to find out Who Truly Deserves Better…

At eighteen years old, Brooklyn Andrews is nothing more than a naive college student. Being the youngest of five and the only girl, she is sheltered from a lot of things that most girls her age experience, including boys. That is until she meets Dominic.

Dominic Roberts is a young, handsome business man who owns a profitable trucking company, along with his older brother, David. When the two meet it’s hard to deny the attraction that they have for one another and it doesn’t take long before they act on what they both feel. The only thing standing in their way besides Brooklyn’s brothers is Kennedi, Dominic’s fiancé.

Kennedi loves Dominic with all her heart, but Brooklyn is slowly making him rethink if marriage is what he really wants. Will Dominic drop his fiancé and make Brooklyn his number one or will she continue to be his little secret?

Writing Process Global Blog Hop

Hi everyone! Two weeks ago, Lynn Lovegreen hosted me on her blog for the Writing Process Global Blog Hop. Today, I will be giving my take on what inspired me to write as well as host three authors. 🙂

What am I working on?

Currently, I’m getting ready to write the third book in the Something Just Ain’t Right series. I’m also working on re-releasing one of my previous stories, Our Love, as well as gearing up for a new series that is a spin-off from the Love, Life, & Happiness series.

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

My work is different from others of its genre because it provide diversity with the main characters.  I love New Adult fiction, so when I began writing, I wanted to focus on characters that were not only strong minded, but also diverse.  That was the concept I had in mind when I wrote the Love, Life, & Happiness series. Although there are starting to be more NA books that feature African-Americans characters, it’s very rare that you would encounter a book, let alone a series, in this genre that have predominately African-American characters.

Why do I write/create what I do?

I love to write in certain genres, especially romance and women’s fiction. I also like to step outside of the box, and that was what I did with my current series, Something Just Ain’t Right. I never thought about doing romantic suspense, but I didn’t want readers to see me only as a romance author. I want to be known for other areas of writing as well. That’s what make being a writer so great, because for me, I have the ability to explore many areas and to develop various characters.

How does my writing/creating process work?

Since I have an 8-year-old son, I usually do all of my writing late at night, when it’s just me and my computer. Music is very important with my writing process because it help create various scenes for my stories. I also create playlists for my stories, which describe my thoughts through a particular scene. There may be times when I would have to revise a scene or two and even go through several rounds of editing, but it’s all worth it once I receive the final result.

Please allow me to introduce you all to three new authors that will be continuing the blog hop. These authors are very talented and have wonderful stories available. Please check out their blogs or pages to learn more about them and their work. 🙂

Té  Russ- Author of Love After War (Available now)

Growing up an introvert, Té Russ found solace in literary arts at an early age. She found reading to be a vehicle to broader horizons and writing a form of self-expression. She began writing love stories in her adolescent years as a way to expel her youthful thoughts of love into words. Since then she has gone from writing stories and thoughts of love in journals to attending college for journalism and falling in love, which has allowed those youthful words of love to blossom into a series of stories in her romance novels. Though she has an immense appreciation for the sheer smell that books collectively exert, she also has found balance to her introverted nature with adrenaline inducing activities. So if she does not have her nose pressed deeply into a book or her pen ticking through a pad, you may also find this mother of three jumping out of airplanes, cheering her husband on at the top of her lungs at MMA fights, buzzing down the interstate on the back of motorcycles, or kayaking.

To keep up with her writings and other things going on check out her pages:

Alithea Elizabeth- Author of Love On The Track (Coming Soon)

“A diva is someone who is a perfectionist who does her best in her craft.”-Pattie LaBelle

Those are the words of the legendary Miss. Pattie LaBelle. She sees herself as a Diva in the music world; just like I see myself, Miss. Alithea Elizabeth, as an upcoming Diva in the literary world.

I was born and still do live in the beautiful island of The Bahamas, where I’m currently a student at The College of the Bahamas studying Secondary Education, specializing in History and Geography. I’m actively involved in my community as an Advisor with the Junior Achievement Bahamas. I enjoy reading, writing, traveling, shopping and spending time with my family and friends.

I was in love with writing from an early age, writing all over my mother’s walls.  However, after being put in timeout a few times, my mother gave me a notebook and a pen. From that time, I have always been putting my pen to paper, writing short story about my family and friends or even about my family vacation. It wasn’t until 2012 when I decided to write my debut novel, Love On The Track.  After a few setbacks I got discouraged, but thanks to  supportive family and friends, I’m currently working on publishing my first book in the near future.

Writing is my passion…..

Her Global Blog Hop will be in May.
