30 Days, 30 Authors- Genesis Woods

Hi everyone! The 30 Days, 30 Authors event continues with Genesis Woods. Not only is she a best-selling author with her series, What Bae Won’t Do The Next Man Will and Black Love White Lies, but she’s also a party decorator too.

Now, here’s Genesis! 😊

Born in Detroit, MI raised in Long Beach, CA, Genesis’s over active imagination often got her into a lot of trouble in her household. When she wasn’t outside causing havoc, you could find her in her room reading, writing, or drawing. Her love for art ultimately took over once she entered middle school, which caused her love for writing to come to a screeching halt. Once Genesis graduated from High School and entered college, her passion for writing came back and she’s been doing it ever since. Whenever she wasn’t studying for exams, doing homework, or working, you could find her writing in one of the many journals she had laying around.

Her dreams of becoming a writer became reality in December 2014 when she self – published her FIVE star debut novel All or Nothing: Truly Loving Destiny. (Which is NOW available on Amazon.com).. Since then, Genesis has gone on to complete two series; What Bae Won’t Do The Next Man Will and her more popular series Black Love White Love which is a BWWM Romance.

Genesis currently resides in Los Angeles, CA with her 2 beautiful daughters and is currently working on a few books which are do to be out late April..Early May..

1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

Besides writing, I like to dip into the artsy/DIY side of me…I have a Banner/Party Decoration company that keeps me pretty busy….

2. What inspired you to become an author?

Wanting people to hear my story and relate to them inspired me to be a writer…I know majority of the books have the same storyline…Girl meets boy…Girl falls in love…Boy cheats on girl…Girl leaves…Boy gets some act right…Then girl takes him back…Although they are the same, the reactions and consequences are different…And I wanted people to see that with my stories…

3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

Honestly…My first reaction to being published was like…”This shit is going to be harder than I thought…”  You actually have to get out here and make people want to read your books…When you’re a new author, some people will make the decision to NOT give you a chance because they aren’t to sure about your work…I hope to be a household name someday…

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

In the next five years, I hope I have at least 20 to 30 books under my name…I hope to be a trending topic in book clubs all over the world….and I hope that I’m able to make a better life for my kids by doing something as simple as sharing my life with the readers…

5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?

The only advice I would give is to KEEP GOING NO MATTER WHAT…People are going to criticize your work (bad), hate on you, and even start crazy ass beefs…Just try to put all of the bullshit on the side…Keep it professional…And don’t ever let the opinion of someone who DOESN’T know your struggle bring you down….

After having her heart broken for the last time, she decides to take a small break from men and just focus on her thriving shoe store she owns with her sister Ariana.

Cairo Broussard wasn’t looking for love, but at the same time, was open for it to happen if it came. He never thought in a million years that he’d practically fall in love at first sight after walking into the custom shoe store one of his players told him about. When his ex-girlfriend Alexandra Tate offers him a proposition to manipulate his inheritance, will he marry her for the money or will he follow his heart and be the man that Audrielle needs him to be?

Watch what happens and unfolds when your back is up against the wall and people from your past pop up to either make your life better or ruin it all together. Black love is a very strong and powerful thing, but with white lies in the mix, who knows what will happen?

30 Days, 30 Authors- Kiara Neufville

Hi everyone!! It’s a brand new day and another talented author to grace the 30 Days, 30 Author event. Kiara Neufville has been writing for a short time, but she is slowly making her name known in the Urban genre with series such as For The Love Of Money and her standalone, Odyssey And Honey. I’m happy to have her apart of this event as she tells her journey in the industry as well as what inspires her to write.

author bio

“You are Braver than you Believe, Smarter than you Seem, and Stronger than you Think.”

~ Winnie the Pooh
Hello, I’m Kiara Neufville. I’m twenty one years old. Im Jamaican at heart but live in Maryland. I love Winnie The Pooh. I love shopping and I’m very spoiled. I’m very laid back and down to earth. I’m a college student during the day but at night or in between classes I’m a writer. I love writing. My writing developed from reading many books. The first time I tried writing in high school after reading teenage urban fiction books I took as a joke. I never thought that I wanted to write. Years later I picked back up reading urban fiction books. One day I was speaking with my mom about writing but was just joking. Well so I thought. After the talk with her, I decided I was going to try to write a book. I never thought I would enjoy writing so much. It definitely helps me in ways I thought it wouldn’t. When I have my moments were I need to express myself I put it into a book. Writing takes me from reality and puts me in a space I enjoy. In a couple years I see myself still writing but also having a publishing company. I would love to brand myself to become a beast publisher. The support I get from my publisher helps me too see what I would love to be in a publisher. Who knows maybe I’ll be some of my readers publishers one day.
Sky is the limit for me. 💕

Prologue

I sat in the tub praying this night wouldn’t end so badly.  All I wanted was for my mom to be like other moms to their sixteen-year-old daughters. Why did God put me with a fucked up individual? I swear my mom didn’t have all her fucking screws.

“Tammi, let’s go, nobody is going to wait on your ass all fucking day,” my mom barked while barging in the bathroom.  She looked at me with those dark brown eyes. My mom wasn’t an ugly individual, she was actually a natural beauty. She was peanut butter skin complexion with a short pixie cut. Her height averaged out to be about 5’4 inches. Her body was nice; she had nice D boobs with a plump butt that men adored. Seeing her moving closer to me, I broke out my trance.

“Mommy, can we please just not do this tonight, please?” I begged in a sincerely pleading tone.

“Tammi, what the fuck is wrong with you? I wish it was you who died instead of Casey. Man the fuck up! Ain’t shit out here for free!” She yelled as she stormed out the bathroom. I knew she was pissed to know that I was all in my feelings. My mom hated that shit with a passion. Showing any kind of emotion could very well get my ass beat. I was soaking wet, so I knew she would make that beating the worse one ever. Quickly, I hopped out of the shower. I dried off and started getting dressed into the outfit that she’d left on the counter for me. In no time, I was fully clothed in approximately three minutes at the most.

“Glad to see you’re hustling now. I thought you were going to need a little motivation. You know I don’t mind giving you some,” my mom boasted with a slick roll of the eyes. “Now, let’s fucking go!” She yelled, causing me to jump. I pulled my box braids into a bun while walking behind her. I got to the living room just as she threw a box of Nike boots at me. I grabbed them and sighed while putting them on.

“So, this is the plan, Tammi,” she started.  “You will come in with me, Sandra and Lo.” She then glanced around at the others that were sitting in the living room. “The rest of you will go in first to scope it out.  Body everything moving so that by the time we enter the crib, it’ll be an easy in and out. There are two safes, one upstairs and one downstairs. I’ll take the one downstairs and yall take the one upstairs,” my mom explained.

I just looked around at everyone sitting there with anxious expressions on their faces. They seemed ready and willing to do whatever it took to make this happen. I, on the other hand, just wanted to cry and run back to my room to hide out. However, I knew my mom would beat my ass into next year. I grabbed the bag that she threw at me and the gun she passed me as I walked out of the house behind her.

This was my life at sixteen. I would be robbing my first trap house for money and drugs. From my understanding, my mom was willing to split the money between everyone. Luckily for her, most of the hitters wanted drugs over the money. It was crazy to me because I’d rather the money over the drugs. As I stood there waiting to leave, all I could do was wish that my mom would reconsider me being a part of such a risky scheme. Unlike her, I was nervous as fuck. I should be out with my friends, and/ or thinking about school the next day, not running up in somebody’s spot and robbing it.

***

The car came to a stop as mom parked it almost across the street from the house that we were about to run up in. She nodded her head at everyone as their cue to get out of the car. She then grabbed me by my wrist, in a seemingly forceful way, as we headed towards the trap house.

“If you’re going to look scared then you might as well get shot now. Show no fucking emotions!” She spat through gritted teeth while holding my neck tight.

“How exactly am I supposed to look? I’m scared,” I admitted. “This is not the way that I pictured my life. Robbing traps with my mom?” I pondered while shaking my head.

Tammi, shut that weak shit up! Denise, I don’t know how you put up with her weak ass. You see London’s ass is ready to handle her business,” Sandra barked. She was my mom’s best friend and the statement was absolutely true when it came to them. Birds of a feather sure as hell flocked together.

“Let’s go,” Denise let out as she realized that they’d gotten their cue to enter. “Fuck this up and that’s your ass,” she said in a firm tone as we started walking towards the trap once more.

We were in and out of the house in five minutes, tops. The whole time, I was shaking and jumping from guns going off. Once we got in the car to leave, no one said anything.

***

Finally, we’d made it back to our house and all I wanted to do was lay down. I needed to shake the thoughts of what had happened earlier. However, my mom couldn’t just let it be. She had to say something to me or it wouldn’t have been right.

“This is your life; get used to it. We have to make this money one way or another. Nothing is free in this fucking world. If you want to maintain all the shit you got, then fuck love and fuck those emotions. Focus on the money!” My mom fussed as we entered the house.

“Okay!” I yelled in response. “You wanted me to see what you did for a living. I did, but I’m not doing that for the rest of my life. I was scared shitless,” I added, so she’d know that I wasn’t down like the rest of them.

“So, what the fuck are you going to do?” She asked while looking at me like I’d said something funny.

“I don’t know,” I said with hesitance. “I guess I’ll go to college and someday, be a great mom to my children. Robbing people just isn’t that ideal, not for me anyway,” I added.

“Ha, you hear this shit?” she laughed to herself. “Tammi, wipe all those fucking fairytales out of your head. It’s either robbing or selling ass; choose one,” she boldly stated while walking up to me.

“Neither of those are a choice for me!” I yelled. “I have other options!” The minute that came out of my mouth, my mom was smacking me in the face.

“In life, no man is going to deal with a weak woman that shows emotions. You either going to live life to the fullest or die a miserable bitch,” she spat. “But while you’re living, you better have money because you don’t want to end up in the fucking scums. All the shit Casey had, she worked for it. You’re going to do the same.”

“You killed Casey with this same old bullshit. Are you trying to kill me, too? Why can’t we be like a normal family?” I asked as the tears fell down my cheeks. I was thinking that, for once, my mom may have felt a little empathy for me from the saddened, almost blank expression on her face, but it didn’t last long. With just a blink of an eye, she’d slapped me again, while splitting my lip and causing my nose to bleed.

“I didn’t kill shit! Your sister worked her ass off and that’s what you’re going to do, too. I don’t want to see no more fucking tears. If I do, that’s your fucking ass. I can’t believe you’re this fucking weak!” she yelled, while using the F-bomb like it was the only cuss word that she could harshly use. Unfortunately for me and my soft spirit, tears continued to fall and my mom made good on her threats as she beat on me some more.

“Mom please!” I begged of her, but she wouldn’t stop. She was filled with anger and wanted nothing more than to take it out on me for being so weak. Little did she know, I wasn’t built for this shit. All I wanted was my sister, Casey, back. I couldn’t believe that she’d died from living this careless, cruel lifestyle that my mom had instilled in her. It was just all too much for one to take.

Casey was three years older than me. She was the toughest out of us two. She always told me that she would protect me and that I wouldn’t have to deal with this robbing shit. She knew I wasn’t built like her or our mom. I only could wish that my mom would just stop robbing people and be a fucking mom.

Once the beating was over, she looked at me with hardened eyes and yelled out, “That should teach your ass! NO FUCKING EMOTIONS!”

I nodded my head like I understood clearly and then, I crawled into the bathroom. My body hurt so bad that it was a shame. All I wanted was to forget my life as I washed up and headed to bed to dream this nightmare away.

Two years later

That night, two years prior, was the start of Tammi, the bitch. I showed no emotion due to my mom beating my ass every chance she got, if I did. I’m Tammi, the baddest bitch walking around and nobody could tell me shit. My mom had created a monster.

“Let’s go!” I demanded while following behind my mom and our hitters. I put together this heist and even though I was excited about it, I was just as ready for it to be over. We all got in the cars that waited outside for us, then headed to the trap. We pulled up and I hopped out, creeping quietly with my gun in my back band.

Knock, knock…

“Who is it?” Someone called out.

“Sabrina,” I quickly lied.

The guy behind the door cracked it open just enough, so he could get a better view. I could clearly see him watching me as he licked his lips. He was definitely intrigued by the tight black dress that I had on as he admired my curves.

“I’m wondering if someone could give me a jump or let me use a phone. My car broke down,” I submissively told him. He closed the door shut, only to remove the chain that stopped him from opening the door up all the way. I smiled to myself. It was definitely about to go down. I pulled my gun out and the minute the door opened, I fired off a shot between the big nigga’s eyes. To be the security that held the place down, he was stupid, but who could resist all of this? I pushed my way in while firing my gun off several more times as my hitters came in right behind me.

Instantly, I walked off in the direction of the underground safe where all the money and drugs were. Once I’d gotten the safe open, I started stuffing the shit in bags. I jumped as gun shots rang out in the next room. The sound of the loud noise it made startled me because my crew had silencers.

“Damn,” I whispered while hoping that my crew had put a stop to whomever it was that was trying to retaliate back.

Noooooo,” I heard London call out, followed by, “Hurry up Tammi! We got to go!”

Without a second thought, I quickly finished bagging the shit up then headed back upstairs. Once upstairs, my heart dropped as my mouth fell partly open. I was totally caught off guard.

Noooooo, this can’t be!” I let out while feeling like my legs were buckling underneath me.

“Come on, Tammi! There is nothing that we can do now,” London stated as she grabbed me by the wrist.

“How can I just leave her like this?” I questioned as I saw my mom laid out in a puddle of blood.

“I shot the guy that did it,” London said in hopes of making me feel better. The only thing that it did was piss me off more as I stood over his body and put a bullet through his head. I knew that he was dead already, but it somehow eased the pain of seeing my mom like that. As I glanced over at her lifeless body, I thought about what she’d say at a time like this.

“Show no emotion!”

Without further delay, I leaned down and I kissed her softly on the forehead, before walking out with the bags of goodies in my hand. I felt alone as I glanced around to see that my hitters had left me when things had gotten real. That was the only reason why I felt my mom had gotten shot.

London and I torched the place and hurriedly hopped inside the truck. I sat the bags in between us as I drove away; only to glance back in the rearview mirror while silently saying a prayer for my mom.

Somebody is going to pay for this. It might not be right now, but they will. I thought as I held back the tears from falling from my eyes.

30 Days, 30 Authors- Sheena Binkley

2012-07-15 00.52.24

Hi everyone! How is everyone enjoying the event so far? For me, I couldn’t host the event without getting in on the fun too, lol. Although a lot of you know me since this is my blog, there are quite a few readers who still doesn’t know who I am, so with that being said, let me introduce myself and some of the books that I have written. 🙂

author bio

Sheena Binkley first discovered her love for storytelling when writing her first story for a class project at the tender age of nine. Since then, she has composed several short stories and numerous tales that are not only engaging, but simply entertaining. She is also a freelance writer, penning articles on various topics including education and entertainment. Besides writing, she loves reading, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. She lives in Houston (where the weather is always unpredictable) with her husband and son.

author interview

1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

Besides writing, I love to hang out with my family and friends, listen to music (old school mainly), and just relax. That’s something I haven’t been doing lately, so when I have a chance to do it, I take advantage of it, lol.

2. What inspired you to become an author?

It all started when I was nine and I had to do a story for a class project. I loved writing it so much that I decided to continue to write short stories and eventually a series titled Homeroom, which is based on a group of friends as they go through the ins and outs of high school. I love to write, so it wasn’t hard to pursue something that I hope I can turn into a full-fledged career.

3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

I cried, mainly because I was seeing my dream come true. Not only that, but the one person that supported me with my writing, which was my mom, was not here to share in the celebration. I know she was looking down on me in heaven, proud that I stepped out in faith and released my first book. That alone was the most important factor to me.

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Besides still writing (praying that I am), I hope to be a New York Times best-seller. I’m an Amazon best-seller, but to me, you made it to the big times if you’re either on the New York Times or USA Today’s best-seller’s list. I also would love to own my own bookstore and sell only independently owned books. I think authors should support each other, especially independent authors; therefore, this would be a wonderful way in doing that.  Another dream of mine is to own my own publishing company. I want to be able to give authors a voice and to choose what type of stories they want to write. I know with a lot of hard work, it will happen soon. I can feel it.

5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?

For me, I would say to never give up on your dreams. There will be doubters and haters who don’t want you to succeed, but do not listen to them. Being able to write and release a book is a blessing, so you should go out and pursue it. Don’t hide it because you will never know your potential if you do. Also, make sure you make the right decisions with publishing your books. If you want to be independent, then be independent; if you want to go to a publisher, make sure it’s one that fits you and your writing style. Don’t go somewhere because they’re popular or have a lot of readers supporting them. Go to one that you are comfortable with and know that you will shine with.

From Something Just Ain’t Right

  1. Morgan

October, 2014

“Are you seriously going to do this right now?”

“Do what? I told you before we came in here what my intentions were. You agreed to them, so I thought everything was straight.”

The girl, Chelsea, Cecilia, whatever her name was, gave me an impatient glance before pulling down her skirt. I didn’t know what her deal was, but I told her point blank what I wanted right now, and striking up a conversation wasn’t one of them. I glanced at Carrie–that’s her name – taking in her medium-length honey blonde hair, smooth auburn-colored skin, and knockout body that I wanted pressed up against me, but I guess she had other ideas. When I told her I wanted to have some fun, I thought she automatically knew what I meant. I thought wrong.

“Listen, if you think I’m just going to give it up to you right now, you’re sadly mistaken.”

“Hasn’t stopped most girls before,” I said with a sexy grin.

Carrie shook her head and sighed.

“I’m not one of these girls you’re occasionally with on campus. I have more respect for myself than that, Morgan.”

“Maybe so, but I think you wanted to see for yourself what girls say about me.”

“Get over yourself, Morgan,” she told me, going to the door and opening it.

I sighed and put on my shirt. Oh well, it didn’t matter. She wasn’t the first girl and definitely wouldn’t be the last. I knew I should stop being an ass towards women, but to be honest, I couldn’t help it. I just wanted to have fun and not be tied down to anyone. I mean, was it a crime to feel that way? To my knowledge, it wasn’t, so why should anyone else be upset about it? The only concern I had before graduating college was living my life, and if that included banging every female at Thompson University, then damn it, I would.

Maybe there was a reason why I felt this way. No, it didn’t have anything to do with a relationship that went wrong or a girl cheating on me; it’s just the fact that I hadn’t met anyone worth committing to. Most of the girls I’d dated were just like me, only wanting to have fun and not be tied down. But, of course, I was the one looking like the man-whore. My mom thought so, and even my best friend, Lamar thought so. I never really understood why Lamar would think that when he was the same way. Well, he was until he met his current girlfriend, Tamara Morris. The two met during our sophomore year at Thompson, and she automatically turned Lamar into a whipping boy. Nothing was wrong with that, but it wasn’t my style.

I walked over to the mirror near the dresser and looked at my reflection. There could be one girl who could make me change my ways, if I wanted to. Hayley Stevens. Hayley was the definition of perfection. Smooth, creamy skin the color of brown sugar, black natural curls that I wanted to twist my fingers through all day and night, and her lips. Full, thick lips that I wanted to suck and kiss on for eternity. Did I mention that girl had a banging body? Yes, she definitely did. I couldn’t help but notice how her hips were shaped in her favorite jeans or her long legs walking past me when she wore her signature baby doll dresses. She oozed sexiness without even trying. She just naturally was.

I shook my head, trying to shake my thoughts of her. I opened the door and saw her and her friend, Paula Howard, walking towards the stairs. She looked at me with a confident smile and pushed her curls away from her face.

“Hey, Morgan,”

“Hey, Hayley. I didn’t think you would be here.”

“What, I can’t be at a Kappa party?”

“Well, you know how Lamar is.”

“Well, what Lamar doesn’t know won’t hurt him, right?” She asked, giving me a flirtatious smile.

I stared at her, thinking how sexy this girl was. I knew she was flirting with me, and being the man that I am, I could probably use it to my advantage, but I knew I couldn’t. Not with her.

Paula looked at us and sighed.

“Let’s go, Hales. Bye, Morgan,” she said, pulling Hayley along as they went downstairs.

I exhaled and put a hand to my chest. Damn, I wanted her, but I knew if I pursued her, it would only cause trouble.

I could have any girl at Thompson University, and I almost did, but there was one girl I couldn’t have, and that was Hayley. The reason? Hayley is my best friend’s sister.

When close friends Candice, Samar, Sha, and Sabrina have to face the reality that tomorrow isn’t promised for any of them, primarily due to Candice’s mother’s violent death and the rapidly surfacing complexities in their lives, they realize they are capable of anything, be it positive or negative, and it is up to them to make the best choices to avoid being in harm’s way.

Candice, Samar, Sha, and Sabrina are learning how to deal with the highs and lows their lives are hurling at them. Candice is sixteen and is having a preponderant amount of difficulty dealing with her mother’s death and coping with issues regarding her peers. She experiences her first serious romantic relationship. She wonders if their love for one another will stand the test of time and if their relationship is worth the trouble it brings her way.

Samar, seventeen and the boldest of them all, definitely marches to the beat of her own drum. She is very temperamental, especially because her boyfriend seemingly cannot be faithful to her. She seeks revenge and does not care how evil she has to become to achieve it.

Sha is Samar’s younger sister. At sixteen, Sha is in the process of determining if she wants to discontinue an abusive relationship in order to become involved in a much healthier one. She learns from her mistakes but is unsure if she will repeat them, despite her lessons learned.

Sabrina is seventeen, laid back, and carefree. She mostly keeps to herself and does not need a lot of attention to feel self-assured. She figures having too many girlfriends will cause too many problems she’d rather not deal with. She has strong feelings for a fellow whom she does not trust. She is on the fence about whether to follow her heart, go out on a limb, and give him a chance.

When close friends Candice, Sha, Natalie, and Brandy have to face the reality that tomorrow isn’t promised for any of them, primarily due to Candice’s mother’s violent death and another tragedy involving someone very close to them, they realize they are capable of anything, be it positive or negative, and it is up to them to make the best choices to avoid being in harm’s way.

Candice is sixteen and is having a preponderant amount of difficulty dealing with her mother’s untimely death and the changes occurring in her family. Her relationship with Kelvin becomes very testy. She can’t seem to figure out whom she wants to be with. Who will it be, Jacob or Kelvin?

Sha is sixteen and could possibly end up pushing her boyfriend, Delvin, away when she needs him the most. Will she hold on to him or will she lose him forever?

Natalie is seventeen and quietly tiptoes her way into this circle of friends. Her innocence, loyalty, and true friendship is what they need, especially during the tumultuous times that creep upon them. She ponders whether she will ever experience being with Ezekiel whom she’s had her green eyes on for a couple years.

Last, but not least, there’s Brandy who is sixteen. Will she leave her longtime boyfriend, William, for Mitch? She’s not so sure if a long distance relationship will work between Mitch and her. Will she end up following her heart or playing it safe?

The college years are upon close friends Candice, Brandy, Natalie, and Sabrina. They realize they are capable of falling, be it falling in love or falling into a web of sticky negativity. They are continuously learning how to deal with the highs and lows their lives are hurling at them.

Candice is eighteen and her relationship with her boyfriend, Kelvin, is very testy. Jealousy and rage ensues especially when her other love interest, Jacob, is around. She can’t seem to figure out whom she wants to be with and Jacob isn’t making it easy for her to disregard her feelings for him. Who will it be, Jacob or Kelvin?

Eighteen year old Brandy has to decide if she wants to be with and remain with her love interest, Mitch, when she starts college or if she wants to continue remain single? She finally notices the enchantingly charming Brice when she starts attending the same college as him, but does he stand a chance of stealing the heart that Mitch has so diligently conquered?

Natalie is nineteen and is having difficulty maintaining her Christian beliefs and values due to being curious about going all the way with her boyfriend, Ezekiel. She knows she’s supposed to wait until marriage, but that’s easier said than done. Will she hold up her virtue or allow temptation to get the best of her?

Last, but never least, there’s Sabrina who is nineteen and is thoroughly enjoying being with the love of her life in many more intimate ways than one. Will she have any regrets regarding how close she’s allowed Steven to get to her? Can she truly trust that he won’t break her heart, especially after going to the point of no return with him?

EXCERPT

From Part 1

Sabrina

His intentions cannot possibly be any good. I must be the female he has chosen to prey on next. I don’t know what to say to him. He makes me nervous, and no other guy has done that before. I know one thing—he is absolutely not having his way with me. I refuse to be his next victim.

Part 2

Candice

I want to tell him that my mom and he have taught me better and that I know better. I know I’m contributing to making my race lo ok bad and I’m fitting into the mold of certain stereotypes that have been thrown out there about black people. Especially the particular stereotype that we are violent. I don’t say anything, though. My lips will not part. Tears begin to fall down my cheeks instead. I feel my dad’s eyes on me. He wipes my tears away, but more tears replace the ones he wiped away. I’m so tired, both mentally and physically.

Part 3

Natalie

After we finish our homework, he walks me to my white BMW M6, which is parked in his driveway. I open my car door and stand in the doorway. He stands directly in front of me. I toss my backpack into the passenger seat. We can’t keep our eyes off each other. I’m infatuated with him.

“I’m going to come and pick you and Christian up in the morning,” he informs me.

He brings a smile to my face. “Do you want me to call you when I get home?” I ask him.

“You already know the answer to that.”

“I’ll call you when I get there. Oh, another thing. Will you accompany me to Bible study tomorrow evening?”

He’s taken aback by my request. I can tell. But after pondering this for a moment, he says simply, “Yes. No problem, Natalie.”

“I’ll pick you up at six forty-five tomorrow evening, then.”

“Okay.”

“Another thing.”

“What is it?”

“Will you come with me to Bible study from here on out, every Wednesday?”

“Are you serious?”

“Yes.” My heart sinks because I assume he’s going to say no.

“Do you go to Bible study every week?”

“I do,” I confirm. “So does Christian.”

“Figures,” he states, as if he doesn’t even know why he asked the obvious.

“What do you mean by that?”

“Don’t worry about it.”

“I know you’re probably wondering what you’ve gotten yourself into concerning me and everything that goes along with me.”

He nods in agreement. “I understand.”

“My faith in God is a part of the package deal you’re getting along with me. If you don’t want to continue to see me, I’ll understand. And another thing—I’m not allowed in your bedroom, so I can’t go in there anymore.”

“Says who?”

“My dad.”

“That’s not an issue, Natalie.”

“And you’re not allowed in my bedroom. We also can’t be at one another’s houses if our parents aren’t home.”

“If you say so.” He isn’t taking heed to what I’m telling him.

“I’m serious!”

He grabs me by my waist, pulling me closer to him while taking in everything I’ve told him. He kisses me and as I’m returning his kiss, I think this must be a “goodbye, nice knowing you” kiss.

From Fallen

Natalie

“Come here,” he requests, pulling me closer to him.

I lean over, kissing him on his soft lips. He kisses me back and his kisses always take me to a mystical place. I want to do more. At least, my body does. My mind hasn’t caught up with my body yet. He pulls me in closer to him and our kisses become more intense. He moves down to my neck, I moan softly and then realize…

“Ezekiel, we’re on the side of the road.”

He stops kissing me, looks over his shoulder, leans back over, says, “Come here,” and kisses me one more time before taking us for a ride around town while holding my hand.
