30 Days, 30 Authors-Lolah Lace

Hi everyone! It’s day 22 of the 30 Days, 30 Authors event and Lolah Lace is the next author to be featured. I was first introduced to Lolah’s work with Let’s Play Ball, which is part of the Balls To The Walls series, and I was totally intrigued by her writing style. She definitely knows how to draw her readers in, and with books such as A Constant Reminder, The Truth Behind The Lies, and her latest, Violation, Lolah is definitely doing that and more.

And now, here’s Lolah!

author interview

1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

I love to read. I spend too much time watching TV and movies.

2. What inspired you to become an author?

I don’t remember a time when I didn’t write stories’ so becoming an author was just putting a label on what I had always done in my youth.

3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

My debut novel had been read by a lot of people before it was actually published so my first reaction was a sense of relief that I finally got it out to possible be discovered by readers that didn’t know me.

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

In the future I see myself writing more books, tackling more controversial topics and expanding my brand.

5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?

My best advice is in order to write, you have to read. Reading is the most important part of gaining the skills needed to be an author and being successful at writing.

From Violation

~~ Serena dove from her seat and charged toward me. I was up before she got to me. I leaped over the back of the couch and started running. She could never catch me. I was fast on and off the court. I thought about letting her catch me. Grab me. Touch me. I instantly felt bad for daydreaming. I don’t want to think about her like that. She is too attractive to be here alone with me.

My relaxed eyes were frequently sneaking peeks at her nice boobs. I’m not an angel. I’m really having devilish thoughts. The media has made me out to be something I’m not. There’s a reason I have the nickname No-Hart and Hart-Less. They aren’t good reasons.

Serena and I, we’ve been alone together so many times before. So why is this time any different? Maybe because I’m single and I haven’t been with a woman in God knows how long.

“Wait wait!” I yelled out to stop my thoughts and her rapid charge. I paused and she did too. I needed an intermission.

“What’s up, you scared?” She taunted me with her words and with her tight sexy tracksuit. She wasn’t privy to the last part of my thoughts. Hell yeah I was scared. I was scared of what was running through my mind. I was scared of my roaming eyes. ~~

30 Days,30 Authors-Sherry Robinson

Hi everyone! The 30 Days, 30 Authors event continues with Sherry Robinson! Some readers may know her for her Facebook group, Sisters Into Reading/Reviewing Book Club, but some may not know that she is a successful author, with several books under her belt.

Now, here’s Sherry! 🙂

author bio

Sherry Robinson, a native Chicagoan, was born July with a birth sign of Leo. I am a mother of two, and a grandmother of six. My love of reading is what sparked my interest in becoming an author someday. My favorite authors include Danielle Steele, V.C. Andrews, Stephen King, and Edger Allen Poe. With that interest, I began writing books in high school, and my dreams became a reality in 2015 I have now published a total of eight books (Damaged beyond repair, Targeted, Targeted 2, and How do I choose, How do I choose 2, How do I choose 3, Sins of the cloth, and Outbreak). In my spare time, I enjoys crocheting, reading, and spending time with my grandchildren. My more adventurous side has led me to travel to various places, such as Canada and Puerto Rico, and I hope to someday have the privilege of visiting every state in North America; I have visited 21 states so far.

author interview

1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

I like to read, crochet, travel, and spend time with my grandkids.

2. What inspired you to become an author?

I was inspired to become an author by my love of reading.

 3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

When my first novel was published I was so excited. I couldn’t believe I had finally accomplished what I set out to do.

 4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

In five years I would like to be picked up by a publishing company, and have my novels in every store in America.

5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?

The advice I would give to anyone that wanted to become an author is. Never give up on your dreams. It takes a real person to follow their dreams, and don’t give those dreams up for anyone, and don’t let nobody deter you from following your dreams, and don’t let anybody stop you from doing what you love to do. No matter how old or young you are anyone can be a published author. Keep writing and reading, and write down any and everything. There is no greater accomplishment until you see that first book with your name on it.

W.W.J.S What Would Jesus Say Michael Calvin was a pastor at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Not only was he a pastor he was a husband, and a pillar of the community. Pastor Calvin new the Bible inside and out. He could quote you any scripture in the Bible, and tell you where to find it. Nothing swayed him from his faith until Tara Kyle came to town. Then the 10 commandments that he swore by flew out the window. He was willing to break each and everyone of them just to continue his relationship with her. As his relationship with Tara escalated he began to break them one by one.
Kate was alarmed when her two twin daughters didn’t wake her up. She walked into the girls room to find Raquel lying in a pool of her own sweat. Kate took Raquel to the hospital where there was wall to wall people waiting to be seen by the doctor. Kate overheard a conversation while in the hospital that caused her to investigate what was going on for herself. The IDC stepped in an quarantined the town making Kate even more suspicious. Kate discovered that theirs wasn’t the first town that the government had released a virus in. Kate knew she needed to get her findings into the right hands, but she had to wait until the quarantine was lifted just in case the government had tapped her phone, or tried to intercept her emails and faxes. Kate enlisted the help of a reporter{Daniel Strong} to tell her story. Daniel was reluctant to take the story at first, but after further digging he uncovered something that even Kate didn’t know about. Once the story broke Daniel was visited by several government guys that tried to strong arm him into recanting his story. They informed him that this story was even bigger than his meager paycheck, so to back off or else.
Outbreak: A Government Experiment Gone Wrong
Kate didn’t see the doctors, nor did she see any nurses. One door was closed, so Kate assumed they were all in there. She walked over to the closed door looking up and down the hallway to make sure she wasn’t seen. Then she went over to the door, and placed her ear up against it to see if she could hear anyone inside talking.
“What are we looking at?” she heard someone ask. “Are we experiencing some sort of epidemic?” someone else asked. “I have never seen anything like this, this. It’s the first time in my experience as a doctor that something of this magnitude has ever plagued a community.” she heard a doctor say. “There is no way of knowing how many people have been infected.” another voice said. “Should we contact the IDC?” a nurse said. “I think that is our only chance of getting this thing under control.” the doctor said. Kate knew she had heard enough. She had to make it back to her daughter’s room, before they opened the door and realized that she had overheard them.

author interview

Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

Reading is the other thing I’ve enjoyed most since childhood. I also like baking and cake decorating, but don’t get to do a lot of either anymore. I spend a lot of time watching crime drama.

What inspired you to become an author?

I started reading at a very early age and one day it occurred to me that I could write stories as good as the ones I was reading. In high school I started writing ‘novels’ in exercise books that I taped together. My classmates passed them around and that’s where my ‘career’ began. I left that alone for over 20 years and started writing again in 2004. Writing novels was a natural progression from the articles and short stories I was crafting at that time.

What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

I wore an ear-to-ear grin for days. I still couldn’t believe a publisher had said yes and that I had also signed two other contracts almost at the same time.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

I’ll always be crafting stories, but I see myself going back to teaching writing workshops, which I started doing in 2011. I hope by then I’ll be a household name in Jamaica and will have enough of a following so I can write full-time.

What advice would you give to anyone who wants to become a writer?

The biggest favour a writer can do for himself/herself is to learn the craft. Like anything else, your voice and skill level will take time to develop. Consider that time your apprenticeship. With the many changes in publishing in the last five years, it’s important to study the industry in order to avoid the many pitfalls that wait for unsuspecting writers. Get to know other writers and form relationships. Most importantly, write your stories. Each one helps to sell the other, and don’t forget to have fun along the way.

Janine followed Paul to the door, twisted the lock and used her body to keep it open.

“Take care of yourself,” he said.

She looked at him, her eyes telling him something he didn’t quite understand. She sighed—it was a sound of resignation—and eased forward. He got a whiff of her earthy perfume before she pulled his head down and offered her mouth.

He let her kiss him until he couldn’t resist the pull of her soft lips. His hand came up to hold her head in place as he nuzzled her lips, which opened for him. Somewhere in his mind, he registered the door clicking shut.

He didn’t know how long they stood there, tasting each other. He kissed her neck, relishing the faint saltiness of her skin and when they separated, he questioned her without speaking. She leaned into him, giving permission without uttering a sound. After a slow and thorough kiss, she led him out of the living room and down the short corridor to her bedroom.

He watched her undress, hungry for what he had enjoyed during their single encounter. He cradled her rounded tummy and let his hands rediscover her body. She whimpered and reached for him. He shucked off his footwear and clothing and they fell into her bed.

Instinctively, Paul understood that she needed no foreplay. Their thirst for each other was urgent, intense, and desperate. Paul cast everything aside, but the present moment. They were together again. That was the only thing that mattered.

He tried not to hurt her during their fierce union, feeling as though starved of something only she could provide. In turn, she clung to him as if she feared he would disappear and leave her unfulfilled.

The combination of feathery caresses, her warm breath in his ear and urgent moans sent him soaring to his peak. Even as he lost sense of time and space, he admitted to himself that he didn’t want to be anywhere else but with Janine.

When he could breathe again, Paul smoothed the hair away from her skin, but Janine tilted her head so he couldn’t see her face. She got up and slipped out of the room, shutting the bathroom door between them.

A sigh escaped from him as he dashed sweat away from his forehead. She was crying, already regretting what they’d done. He got up and though disoriented from their frenzied coupling, he pulled on his jocks, jeans, and boots. He zipped his pants and retrieved his shirt from where it had fallen on the floor.

As he struggled with his buttons, he questioned whether he was doing the right thing. Shaking his head in defeat, he decided it was better to leave her alone to sort through her feelings. He’d call later.

He let himself out, unable to understand how one woman could complicate his life in such a short time. As sterile as his past had been, Paul hoped things settled back to normal and gave him a chance to pick up where he left off before Janine. He held little hope that she’d cast her objections aside because they’d made love again. It would take much more than that to satisfy her.

author interview1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

I recently moved to Houston, TX. So I love just going out and exploring the city. What inspired you to become an author? 🙂

2. What inspired you to become an author?

I loved to read growing up. So as I got older, the more that I read, the more I became curious about if I could actually get behind the pen. Then with a push from an author friend, I ended up publishing my first book.

3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

It was so exciting! I wasn’t sure if anybody would buy it, or be willing to take a chance on it since I was a new author. But all it took were those first few five star reviews to come in for me to get hooked. 🙂

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Hopefully still writing! LOL. But I’d love to see a book or two of mine in a major bookstore.

5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author.

DO IT! It is a little nerve-wracking to take that leap, but I can almost guarantee you won’t regret it.

“Coming to the stage. Our hometown favorite. Give it up for G. Griffey!”

What a stupid ass name…

I never understood why rappers couldn’t just go by their mama-given names, instead choosing to come up with dumb shit like G. Griffey.

The bass hit me dead in my chest, forcing me to put a hand over it. I still didn’t understand why Leilani was so pressed to get close to the stage as if either one of our washed-up asses knew who these young dudes were. I mean, you could tell they were young by the demographics of the crowd that surrounded us, most of ‘em being college kids. And since both of us were a solid three years removed, I knew we had no business being there, let alone being at the front of the stage.

“When I say G, ya’ll say Griffey. G…”

I looked over to Leilani who was all chanting along, hands in the air, eyes wide as she watched the performer on stage. I finally decided to take a peek myself and… damn.

  1. Griffey had it goin’ on.

His skin was maybe a shade or two darker than mine, but still qualified him for the lite-brite category. His hazel-green eyes twinkled under the lights from the stage, so much so that I wondered if they were colored contacts. And his lips were perfectly full, curling as he spit his lyrics to the crowd’s enjoyment.

No wonder Leilani’s ass wanted to get close to the stage.

I certainly couldn’t blame her now.

I mean, the way he commanded the stage was damn near hypnotizing. Before I knew it, I was singing along to the chorus that thankfully wasn’t about selling drugs, or shooting somebody though by this point I would’ve probably been singing along to that too.

  1. Griffey did a few more tracks that everyone in the building seemed to know before he quote-unquote, “slowed it down for the ladies”, eliciting all types of screams and squeals. The bass was still heavy, but the tempo was slow as he rapped a song about a bunch of freaky shit I could hardly stand to listen to. Not because I was offended, but because I was painfully turned on as his raspy voice flowed about eatin’ it up and beatin’ it up and, “not trickin’ but treatin’ it up.”

Surely his raps weren’t all talk.

I mean, everything else he rapped about had sounded realistic, so why would these songs be any different?

And it wasn’t only his words that were hypnotizing, it was his mannerisms; the way he used his massive hands to emphasize the point of caressing a woman’s shape and licking his lips to emphasize how much he enjoyed devouring a woman from top to bottom.

Damn, this dude is a problem.

30 Days, 30 Authors- Xyla Turner

Hi everyone!! Today, we have a special guest joining in on the event today. 🙂 Xyla Turner is quickly becoming a familiar name in the literary world with her awesome and thought provoking stories. The first story I’d read from her was Love Under Attack (Also known as The College President) and I was in awe. I loved the story, the characters (especially T.R.) and how everything came to place. If you haven’t read this story, you should. It’s awesome! That’s why this is such a huge honor to have her apart of this event.

And now, here’s Xyla!

author bio

author interview

  1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

Besides writing, my full-time job has me at a high school every day and I’m the Vice-Principal. Besides those things, I hang out with my family and friends and try to enjoy life. We travel, do extreme sports and sometimes take part in various craft events in the city.

2. What inspired you to become an author?

My inspiration to be an author started from a young age, as I’ve always been better at the written word than actually verbalizing the story. What actually spurred me to do it was the opportunity to actually submit my manuscript to a publisher after reading a really great story.

3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

I was extremely nervous and not really sure what to expect. I hit publish and wanted to unpublish so many times because of the nerves. Scared of how it would be received and what people would say.

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

In the next five years, I see myself still writing the stories I want to write, starting new series and optioning for other media outlets.

5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?

My advice is to approach this venture like the business that it is, cultivate relationships and be genuine. It is important to seek help or hire people for things that you are not good at and work hard if you want to succeed. Nobody will care more than you.

Tess’s red eyes focused on me and I noticed her breathing was labored. She looked ready to pass out exhausting all of her energy in one heated conversation.

“Let’s sit, sweetheart.”

“No,” Tess breathed.

“Okay.” I propped my knee on the side of her just in case she went down. “You want my admissions? Fine. I’m in love, mama. 30 Days, 30 Authors- Colby Taylor

Hi everyone!! Today, I have Colby Taylor coming through for the 30 Days, 30 Authors event. I was introduced to Colby’s books by reading Trust and Believe, which is the first book in The Hudson series. Not only did I love that book, but the following ones in the series. The Hudson reminded me so much of the gang from the Love, Life, & Happiness series that it was uncanny. I love the close bond this family has and that no matter what, they are there for each other. If there’re more coming in the series, then I will keep reading because I love each and every one of the characters. 🙂

Now, enough about me raving about this series; let me turn it over to Colby so she can explain about her rise to the top in the literary game.

Here’s Colby!

1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

Besides writing, I love to read, go to shows (Comedy and Plays) and spend time with    those I love.

2. What inspired you to become an author?

I was inspired to write by two men very dear to me. They believed in me when I didn’t think I could and I will always love both for that. I have always had a passion for poetry, but writing has become a part of me that is as natural as breathing. My very first story I never finished and I started it over ten years ago. Maybe soon…

3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

My first reaction was being nervous and proud. I was proud that I accomplished my goal, and nervous hoping that at least someone would love to read my stories as much as I love to tell them.

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

In the next five years, I will still be writing and hopefully on a larger scale than I am. I would love to someday be signed to a major and see my books everywhere!

5.What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?

Take time to learn your craft, and never let anyone change the story you want to tell. Though some may not get it, expressing yourself your way is the key!!!

From One More Try

Chapter 1

“Farrah,” I mumble, opening the door. I can’t stop staring at my wife as if I am seeing a ghost. Is she really here?

The last time I saw Farrah, we were arguing about getting divorced. She swore she would never come back or change her mind about the divorce after the way I abandoned her. I remember trying everything to get her to change her mind, but she wouldn’t budge. Every phone call since then has gone unanswered, so her standing in my doorway has me feeling several different things as once. I honestly don’t know what to think.

“Hey Sa, can I come in?” she asks softly.

“You know you never have to ask to come home,” I respond, trying not to get my hopes up too high.

I just continue watching her as I step aside to let her in. My mind blanks instantly and is consumed with nothing but her saying the words I have been dying to hear for too many months. Please Lord, let her tell me she is coming home I think as she stops in front of me. Automatically her hand goes to her hair on the right side and she pushes it behind her ear. She’s nervous. She always does that when she’s nervous. What is going on?

“I miss you,” I spit out quickly, cutting off anything she may be about to say. I know I’m stalling, but just laying eyes on her renders me incapable of saying anything else. It is just that simple.

“I miss you too, that’s why I’m here. I don’t want to fight anymore. I’m ready to come home Isiah,” she utters the sweetest words I have ever heard. Glancing up, I quickly thank God for granting my one prayer. Mumbling the words aloud, I pull her closer to me and give myself over to the love of my life.

Cupping her face in my hands, I lean into her and taste the most succulent lips I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. My wife’s lips are the only lips I dream about nightly. As her arms wrap around my waist, I get lost in the ecstasy that is the reunion of me and my love. She is finally ready to come home and at this moment, her beautiful words are the only thing consuming my thoughts.

“Isiah? Baby what’s taking so long?” I hear from upstairs.

FUCK!!!! How in the hell did I forget CiCi’s up there!

Dreading opening my eyes, I have no choice as I feel my wife slip from my fingers. No, no, no!!! This cannot be happening! The look in her eyes is one I never wanted to see again. As her eyes mist over, I can feel my chest begin to tighten.

“I knew this was a bad idea…” she mumbles taking a step back.

“No it wasn’t. I can explain this,” I plead with her, knowing damn well I don’t want to.

“It’s not necessary. I see nothing’s changed,” she mutters softly, shaking her head as she opens the door and walks out.

“Isiah,” CiCi calls from upstairs.

“Give me a minute,” I call back, as I make a mad dash behind my wife.

I have got to stop Farrah. I have no idea how the hell I can explain this shit, I just know I have to stop her. As I see her getting closer and closer to her car, I reach out and grab her arm. How did I fuck this up again!

“Farrah please,” I beg, stopping her.

“Take your hands off me Isiah,” she growls. I can see nothing but anger radiating off her and I have never heard her voice this deep before.

“I can explain this, I swear I can,” I plead with her.

“How do you explain another woman in your fucking bed Isiah!” she yells.

“She isn’t! I would never put a woman in OUR bed, you know me better than that Farrah… You just said you were ready to come home…” I scramble for any words to save face.

“Damn what I said! There is a bitch in your house Isiah!” she shrieks.

“This will never be my home again,” she rants.

When I see the water start to collect at the rim of her eyes, I know that I may not win this fight. Right now I just don’t want her to close the door on coming home for good. I don’t know if I can chance losing her forever.

“Every call and message has been about how much you miss me and want me to give you another chance. How you can’t be without me! Then I come here and you have another woman in what you claim is supposed to be our home,” she expresses her frustration, lifting her head to the sky. I know she’s trying not to allow a tear to fall.

“I meant every word. That is not what it sounds like. I am not sleeping with her, I swear,” I explain desperately. I know she doesn’t believe though.

“Maybe not now, but you have,” she accuses me.

“I won’t lie to you. That was months ago, but I haven’t touched her since. I can explain if you give me a chance,” I counter, knowing damn well my wife isn’t going to thank goodness. Honestly, I can’t explain this without damaging us even further. Why now God? WHY NOW!!!

“Explain,” she says, folding her arms across her chest.

Are you kidding me! She never listens! Now today she wants an explanation. Life is really fucking me over right now! As I stand in spot, mind sprinting for anything but the truth, my mouth starts to go dry. Is this shit really happening!

“Just like I thought. I’m done Isiah,” she says as she opens her car door.

“This is not over,” I argue, feeling all hope trickle away by the second. Why did she show up tonight? Why the hell did let CiCi stay here? How did I lose control of this situation like this?

“It is for me. Sign the papers so you can be as free as you’ve been acting,” she says climbing in the car.

“Fine with me. I guess I will just have to treat our marriage the same way you do,” she hisses, slamming the door.

“I’ll be damned! Farrah!” I yell, beating on her door as she cranks up.

“Go back to your little girlfriend!” she shouts through the closed window as I spot a single tear start to drizzle down her left cheek. I am so tired of being the cause of all of her tears I don’t know what to do.

“She is not my girlfriend!” I plead with her.

“And I’m no longer your wife!” she screams back as she floors it backing out of my driveway.

“FUCK!!!” I shout in disbelief that this shit just happened.

How in the hell did the one thing I have been praying to happen for over a year return and I lost out again? Can life really be this cruel I ask myself as I return to the house at a snail’s pace? I can’t believe I just had everything I have ever wanted in my hands and lost again. Now what do I do?

Walking back inside to deal with the mess that I have created, I can only pray that if God sent her once, he will see fit to send her back to me again. I don’t know how long I can keep going like this. Once I get this situation under control, I have got to figure out a game plan to get my wife back. Just seeing her is enough for me to know acknowledge that there will never be another. Farrah is the key to my happiness.

I have got to get her to give me One More Try!!!
