Hi everyone!! Here is the second chapter of Love. Enjoy! 🙂
Patrick Baker was lying in his bed staring at the ceiling.
I never thought breaking up with someone would be this hard.
He rolled over on his side and looked at the picture of him and Sophia. He began to touch Sophia’s smiling face when his friend Aiden Robinson walked in. He stared at Patrick and rolled his eyes.
“Stop it Patrick! I can’t believe you’re doing this to yourself.”
“Leave me alone, Aiden. Can I mope in peace?”
“No you can’t because you’re making me want to mope and I didn’t break up with my girl. Patrick, if you want Sophia back, you have to fight. To be honest, I don’t know why you two broke up in the first place.”
“We broke up because of her ex, that’s why.”
“Did Sophia try to get back with him? From what I know, I don’t think so.”
Patrick sighed and stared at the ceiling again.
“You can mope all you want. I’m going to work. I’ll see you later.”
“Whatever.” Patrick said and turned over on his other side.
“Yeah, whatever.” Aiden said
Patrick turned back over and looked at the picture again.
“What happened between us?”
August 30, 2011
Patrick was sitting in his room staring at his phone. He promised Natalie he would call Sophia that night.
“Just dial, Patrick. What’s wrong with you?”
He has been staring at his phone for about twenty minutes. He dialed the number a couple of times, but hung up on the last digit. Patrick has always seen Sophia around, from school to his job, to even with her ex-boyfriend, but he never thought he would have a chance to talk to her.
And you won’t if you don’t dial the number.
He picked the phone up from off his bed and pushed the talk button. He quickly dialed the number and waited patiently while the other end was ringing. He was about to hang up when a voice appeared on the other end.
“Hello.”
“Hi. May I speak to Sophia, please?”
“Speaking. Hi Patrick.”
“How did you know it was me?”
“A little thing called Caller ID.”
Patrick chuckled. “Of course. How are you?”
“Pretty good. And you?”
“Doing well.”
“To be honest, I didn’t think you were going to call.”
“Why you thought that?”
“I don’t know. Why would you want to? You don’t know me and you just met me today and that was by us bumping into each other.”
“Technically, I have seen you around school and my job; and is that why I’m talking to you now, to get to know you.”
“I guess so.”
“Why don’t we get to know each other and go out this Friday? We can do whatever you want.”
“I don’t know, I just broke up with someone and I’m not ready to date.”
“From what I heard, you’ve been single for a month and I don’t see anything wrong with a friendly date.”
“Natalie really has a big mouth, you know that.”
“I know, but she’s also a good friend. She only wants what’s best for her friends. So, what’s your answer?”
“Sure, why not.”
“Great. I’ll pick you up around seven.”
“It’s a date then.”
“Okay, well I better go.”
“Talk to you later.”
“You can count on that.”
“Bye Patrick.”
“Bye Sophia.”
Patrick looked at the phone and hung up.
“I have a date Friday. Friday is going to be fun….”

Sophia and Layla walked into Starbucks. Layla goes straight to the counter while Sophia sat down at the nearest table. Layla walked over to Sophia.
“You don’t want anything?”
“No, I can wait.”
Layla gave a smirk and goes back to the line. Sophia looked around, and slowly exhaled, trying hard to keep the tears from falling.
This is where Patrick and I had our first date…
September 2, 2011
Sophia and Patrick walked into Starbucks in a fit of laughter.
“This is where you wanted to go?” Patrick asked.
“Yeah. We can sit, talk and drink coffee.”
“I hate coffee.”
“Okay. Well, we can sit and talk.”
“That sounds good.”
The two strolled over to a table near the back of the coffeehouse. Sophia was about to sit down when Patrick stopped her.
“No, no, no. Let me,” he said as he pulled out a chair for her.
Sophia gave a huge grin. “Thanks. No one has ever done that for me before.”
“Not even your ex?”
“No.”
“That’s bad; a guy should always do that for a woman.”
“I agree. There need to be more of you out there.”
Patrick smiled. “So Sophia, tell me what is your idea of fun?”
“I guess a movie or going out to eat, playing a game of pool or miniature golf. I wouldn’t know too much about fun since I don’t go out much.”
“You’re telling me a gorgeous girl like you don’t go out. Why is that?”
“I guess you could consider me a goody-two-shoes who haven’t done much compared to my friends.”
“You don’t party or drink?”
“Not really.”
“Tell me if I’m being a little personal, but are you a virgin?”
Sophia blushed. “That is a little personal.”
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have asked.”
“That doesn’t mean I won’t answer. Yes, I am a virgin and I’m proud of it. How many twenty- year- olds you’re going to meet who are still a virgin?”
Patrick smiled and touched Sophia’s hand. “I met one tonight and it’s nothing wrong with that. That’s a special gift that you should take seriously. You should hold on to that.”
Sophia smiled and stared at her hands. Patrick placed his hand on Sophia’s chin and gazed into her hazel eyes.
The two looked at each other until one of the baristas behind the counter turned on the blender. The two stared at each other and smiled.
“You want to get out of here?”
“Sure. Where is our next stop?”
“Something you like to do for fun.” Patrick replied.
Sophia smiled as the two got up from the table and goes towards the door…
Sophia looked at the door and turned around. Layla was sitting in front of her looking at her with an odd expression.
“You finish daydreaming? I’ve been sitting here for five minutes.”
“Sorry. Why you didn’t say anything?”
“Sophia, I know this is where you and Patrick had your first date, but you can’t keep going to places you two visited and start daydreaming.”
“I know Layla. Let’s just go.” Sophia said as she grabbed her purse.
“I really hope you’re not like this all day.” Layla mumbled as she followed Sophia out the door.

Patrick goes into the living room of his apartment and turned on the TV. He surfed the channels when he suddenly stopped on the sports network. A pool tournament was on and one of the players was about to rack. Patrick leaned back on the couch and sighed.

“Where are we going?” Sophia asked.
The two were in Patrick’s car. He made a left turn, ending the destination.
“You mentioned one of these activities as fun, so I decided this could be fun for a first date.”
He found a parking spot near Uncle Rick’s Pool Hall and turned off the engine.
“Pool, cool. Even though I said pool was fun, I didn’t really say I knew how to play.”
“In that case, this is going to be even more fun.” Patrick said.
As soon as the two stepped into the pool hall, all eyes turned to the two.
Sophia looked at Patrick. “Why is everyone staring at us?”
“Maybe they see what I see.”
“What’s that?”
“A beautiful woman standing next to me.”
Sophia unexpectedly turned a bright shade of red, which Patrick thought was adorable.
After a few minutes inside the pool hall, the two were having a lot of fun. Sophia was racking when Patrick got up from his stool.
“Are you having fun?” He asked.
“Yeah, even though you keep winning, but that’s okay. I can get you on the next game.”
“For someone who said they haven’t played before you got some skills. You sure you haven’t played before?”
“Seriously, I haven’t.”
“I’m going to get a drink. You want anything?”
“I’m good. Thanks.”
Sophia goes to a stool and sat down. She looked at Patrick at the counter and smiled. He walked back with a drink in his hand.
“What are smiling about?”
“Nothing, just thinking.”
“About what?”
“Nothing important. You want to start another game?”
“Sure.”
Sophia looked at the drink Patrick had and picked it up. “Would you mind if I took a sip?”
“Sure, but it does have vodka in it.”
“That’s fine.”
“I thought you don’t drink.”
“I do sometimes.” Sophia said.
She took the glass to her lips and started to drink. Patrick gave Sophia a bewildered look as she drunk half the glass. She put down the drink and gave a light burp.
“Excuse me. That was good.”
“Dang girl, you should have slow down on that.”
“I’m sorry. I’ll buy you another one. I didn’t mean to drink half of it.”
“That’s okay. I’ll just get another one.”
After two and a half drinks and an hour later, Patrick looked at Sophia in total shock. She was lying on the pool table laughing hysterically.
I haven’t even said anything and she’s laughing.
“Sophia, are you okay?”
“I’m peachy, Patrick, just peachy.” Sophia said through a series of giggles.
“I believe you’re drunk. Maybe I should get you something to sober up.”
“I’m not drunk. I’m fine. In fact, I’m better than fine. I’m perfect.” Sophia rambled. She goes over to a vending machine.
“I don’t know why you think I’m drunk. I mean I see you right? And since when did you have a twin?”
Patrick shook his head as he goes over to Sophia and turned her around to face him.
“Oh, hey, Patrick. You know I was just talking to your twin.”
He smiled as he put an arm around her. “We better go. I think you had enough tonight.”
“No, I didn’t. I’m just having fun.” Sophia said as she started to laugh again.
“Before we leave, you have to lower your voice. I don’t want either one of us in trouble since you’re underage and been drinking.”
“Who…was….drinking? I…wasn’t…drinking.” Sophia slurred.
“Okay, let’s not say anything at all.” Patrick said as he took Sophia’s purse from the table.
Sophia leaned into Patrick as she put a hand on his chest. She gave him a seductive glance, making Patrick a little nervous, but also aroused.
“You know, when I first saw you, I said to myself how sexy you looked. How much I wanted to kiss you then, and even more now.”
Patrick smiled at the comment. Trust the flow of alcohol to get a person to really talk.
The two walked to the exit when a police officer opened the door.
“Have a good night. Be careful out there.”
“Thank you, Officer.” Patrick said.
The two was out the door when Sophia fell over. Patrick caught her before she fell on the sidewalk.
“Is she alright?”
“Yeah, she’s a little tired. She had a long day and I dragged her out to play pool.”
“Okay then. Good night.”
Before Sophia could say anything, Patrick covered her mouth with his hand. The two went over to Patrick’s car when Sophia suddenly stopped.
“Please don’t tell me you’re going to be sick.”
“No, not yet anyway.”
“What’s wrong then?”
“Don’t be mad at me for tonight, Patrick. We were having such a great time until I decided to drink.”
Patrick smiled. “It’s not your fault. I shouldn’t have brought the drinks. I blame myself.”
“Don’t.”
The two stared at each other when Sophia stepped closer to Patrick. She grabbed him and kissed him roughly on the lips. He put his hand in Sophia’s hair as he thrust his tongue into her mouth, savoring the moment.
As soon as Patrick tried to deepen the kiss, Sophia pulled away. He looked at her unable to say or do anything else.
“What’s wrong?” He finally managed to say.
Before Sophia could say anything, she kneeled over and vomited on Patrick’s shoes. He looked at the sky in disgust as he lets out a huge groan.
“What a night….”
Patrick woke up from his daydream and looked at the TV. The pool tournament was over and a baseball game was playing. He turned off the TV and exhaled.
“Our first date. I remember it like it was yesterday.”
He leaned back on the couch and sighed.
