LLH: Book 3 Chapter 21

“Tell me why I’m dressed like this? “ Marcus asked Shawn.

The two were standing outside of GZG’s house, about to go inside for the Halloween party.

Shawn looked at Marcus and laughed. “This is a Halloween party and a costume is one of the requirements.”

“I know, but I really didn’t want to dress up.”

“Well, you had no choice since you want to keep an eye on Cheryl.”

Marcus glanced at his Robin costume and sighed. “I rather been Batman.”

Shawn smiled. “Not a chance. I was the one who bought the costumes, so I was going to be Batman.”

Marcus smirked and went inside, looking around at the house. They saw several of the pledges walking around carrying serving trays. They haven’t seen Cheryl or Riana, which hopefully they would eventually.

Dominique walked up to the two and smiled. “Batman and Robin, I wouldn’t had expected that.”

“Well, tonight is full of surprises.” Shawn said.

Marcus glanced at Dominique and rolled his eyes.

“I didn’t think you would had came, Marcus?”

“I bet. I wonder who’s your next victim is tonight?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Dominique said.

“I’ll be near the bar.” Marcus said, going over to the opposite end of the room.

“What’s his problem?” she asked.

“I’m not sure.”

“I’m really surprised you two are talking again; but I wouldn’t had known anyway since we barely talked lately.”

“I know we haven’t; I’ve just been busy with classes and work.”

“I understand. Well, let’s make the most of tonight, then. Dance with me.” She suggested, while pulling him to the center of the room.

“Shouldn’t you be watching the pledges?” He asked. He didn’t want to be anywhere around Dominique, especially while Riana was in the same room.

“I’m pretty sure that’s covered. Now, let’s have some fun.” She said as she began to dance on him. He looked up and saw Riana staring at him. She gave a nod to his costume and went back to waiting.

He began to dance with Dominique, knowing he probably needed to play nice with her since she threatened Riana and Cheryl. Hopefully this will end soon so he doesn’t have to deal with her any longer.

*** Riana glanced at Shawn with Dominique. He didn’t tell her what his costume was going to be; but she had to admit, he looked good wearing it.

He could definitely rescue me any day.

She giggled, which had Cheryl giving her a weird look.

“What’s your problem?”

“You didn’t see Shawn and Marcus’ costume?”

She glanced over and saw Marcus near the bar. He saw her and gave her a wink.

“So I’m assuming Shawn is Batman?”

“Yep, which I admit is looking so sexy right now.”

“There’s no hope for you.” Cheryl said.

She looked at the door and saw Chris and Monica walk in. While she was dressed as a sexy catwoman, Chris’ costume was a 1920s gangster.

“For a second, I thought they weren’t going to show.” She said.

“Whatever you do, just stay calm, okay.”

Cheryl nodded and went to the bar. She smiled at Marcus while he took a sip of his soda.

“I’m glad you’re not drinking the hard stuff.”

“I couldn’t if I wanted to since I have a court appearance soon.”

“She hasn’t given you a hard time, has she?” she asked while staring at Dominique.

“No; but she’s definitely not letting Shawn out of her sight. She’s doing all she can for him to not follow Riana.”

“Figures.”

“How are you? I know you saw Chris and Monica walk in.”

“I’m good. As long as I don’t have to speak to either of them, then it will be a good night. Let me correct that; it’ll be one when I get out of this outfit.”

“I have to admit, it does look good on you.”

Cheryl smiled. “Typical guy.”

“Maybe, but you do look sexy, Cheryl.”

She stared at him when a familiar voice was behind her.

“Shouldn’t you be serving drinks instead of talking?”

She turned around and saw Chris staring at her.

“if you want something, you could had asked the other pledges.”

“I rather for you to serve me.”

“Why don’t you walk away, Chris.” Marcus suggested.

“Why are you even in this conversation?”

“It’s not a conversation if it’s one-sided.”

“I just need to talk to you Cheryl.”

“There’s nothing to talk about, Chris. You chose the person you want to be with, so go be with her.”

“Cheryl…”

“She doesn’t want to talk to you, so leave her alone.” Marcus said. He went up to Chris and stared at him.

“So now you’re talking for her?”

“She can speak for herself, but now I’m telling you to leave her alone.”

“Or what?”

The two stared at each other when Cheryl stepped in between them.

“Stop it, now. Chris, go.”

He stared at Marcus again before turning around and going to Monica.

She sighed and grabbed her tray.

“I’m sorry Cheryl.”

“Don’t apologize. Thank you for that, though.”

“No problem.”

Cheryl leaned into him, giving him a passionate kiss. She didn’t care if anyone was watching. She made her decision , and she decided to go forward with her life. Whatever her feelings are for Marcus, she’ll figure them out eventually. Now, she just want to live in the moment. If it is with Marcus, then so be it.

*** Riana glanced over at Cheryl kissing Marcus and smiled. She knew the situation between all of them was a little complicated, but she was glad for the two.

She went over to the center of the room and saw Dominique still dancing on Shawn. He was giving a disinterested look, which made her laugh. If Dominique only knew how uncomfortable he looked at that moment; but of course, since she’s in her own world, so she’s not paying attention.

She was running low on drinks, so she went to the kitchen to restock. She was about to walk in when she heard Terrance and one of the sisters talking about their pledges. She stood near the door to listen.

“Since Dominique has it out for Shawn’s ex and her cousin, she has this elaborate plan for those two. She hasn’t given all the details yet, but it’s pretty big.” The girl said.

“Dominique mentioned it and I hate it. She really needs to let things go, for her sake mainly. I know how she can be when she’s upset and it’s not good.”

“Well, maybe you should talk to her and convince her to stop this charade.”

“I’ve tried, but she won’t listen. Even if she does go through with this, you, along with the other sisters, will be right along with her.”

“We’re in a sisterhood, so we’re going to help each other.”

“Even if it’ll cost someone’s life?”

“I wouldn’t go that far.”

“With Dominique, you never know.”

She heard someone walk to the door, which made her go towards the corner to hide. She saw the girl leave, which meant Terrance was still inside. She walked in and glanced at him. He gave a sly smile while she refilled her tray with drinks.

“Are you enjoying the party?” he asked.

“How can I when I’m serving everyone?” Riana asked.

Terrance nodded and went up to her. She didn’t like how he was standing so close to her and she slowly backed away.

“Why haven’t you returned any of my calls or texts? It seemed as if after the first assignment you completely stopped talking to me.”

“It’s nothing against you, I’ve just been busy.”

“Well, we’re here now, so we can talk.”

“I have to get back to the party.”

“You don’t have to rush.” He said. He slowly moved his finger down her shoulder, which made her skin crawl.

“I’m pretty sure Dominique wouldn’t like that.”

“She would be okay with it.” He said. He moved even closer to her, crushing his body against hers. She didn’t have anywhere to go and her back bumped against the counter.

“I didn’t get to tell you, but you look really good tonight.”

Riana didn’t like where this was heading. She needed to leave immediately.

“I really have to go.”

“No, you don’t.” He insisted and slammed his fist down on the counter.

“At first, you were giving me the green light to talk to you, and now, you suddenly stopped. What gives?”

“I told you why.”

“I think you’re lying. Is it because of Shawn? Are you back with him.”

“I haven’t talked to him in weeks.”

“Stop lying! I know that you’re back with him. Hell, even Dominique knows, but she’s delusional; she believes she still has a chance with him.”

Riana noticed the raged look he had, which knew this wouldn’t end well if she didn’t leave. She slowly reached behind her to retrieved her phone. Even though she wasn’t suppose to have it, she still kept it out. Good thing the costume had a back pocket, otherwise, she wouldn’t been able to hide it. She hoped Shawn’s name was still the first on her recent call list, as she dialed his number. Hopefully he’ll pick up his phone and realize something is wrong.

“What are you doing?”

“Nothing.”

He reached behind her and grabbed her phone. He threw it to the ground, causing the screen to shatter.

“Were you calling him?!”

“Terrance, I don’t know what’s going on with you, but this is not you. Please, just let me go back to the party before someone notice I’m gone.”

“No. You’ve been giving me mixed signals for weeks now, so now, it’s time we finally talk.” He said.

He put his lips on Riana’s neck, which made her squirm. She tried to wiggle her way out of his grasp, but he was too strong.

“Get off of me!” she exclaimed.

He continued to kiss her when she scratched him. He pulled away from her as she kneeled him in the groin. He doubled over while she pushed past him and ran out of the kitchen. He ran after her and grabbed her hair, and turned her around. He slapped her. The force was so severe, it made her fall on the floor.

“Now look what you made me do.” He said. He pulled her over to the table and pulled her onto it. She couldn’t do much since she was woozy from the fall. He ripped opened her top and kissed her neck again. She tried to scream but no sound was coming from her mouth. She saw the vase sitting near the table as she picked it up and knocked him over the head. He fell on top of her, which made her scream. She tried to pull him off of her, but he was too big. She saw the door opened and Shawn ran in. He pulled Terrance off of her and she went over to the door.

Terrance slowly looked at him, not knowing what was going on.

“What the hell are you doing?” He asked.

Shawn didn’t say anything; instead, he punched him, causing him to hit his head on the table and fall to the floor.

“Come after her again and I will do more.” He threatened.

He went over to Riana and hugged her.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m okay. I didn’t think you would know where I was.”

“I asked one of the sisters and they said you went towards the kitchen. I said I was going to look after you and this happened.”

“Don’t, Shawn. You had your hands full with Dominique.”

“Yeah, but I should had been protecting you.”

Riana looked over Shawn’s shoulder and saw Terrance coming towards him with a knife.

“Shawn, look out!”

He turned around and he blocked his body from the knife. He grabbed it from Terrance and the two began to fight. The door swung open and Marcus and Cheryl ran in. Marcus ran over to the two. Cheryl pulled Riana to her and hugged her.

“What the hell is going on?”

Before Riana could speak, she fell into Cheryl’s arms. She watched as Shawn punched Terrance again, knocking him out cold.

“Shawn!” Cheryl yelled.

He looked over and saw Riana on the floor. He went over and took her from Cheryl.

“I’m taking her to the hospital.” He said.

And the three left from the kitchen.
