Hi everyone! The 31 Days, 31 Authors event is definitely introducing a lot of authors from various genres. Shawanda Carter is no stranger to the urban genre, as her series Sick Obsession, is definitely a must-read.
Now, here’s Shawanda!!

I am Shawanda Carter, the author of the Sick Obsession series (parts 1-3) and Stone Cold Gentleman. I am 32 years old and the youngest child in my family. I have always enjoyed writing since it was always a way for me to escape reality and go into my on imagination. It allows me to create my very own reality (if that makes sense). Anything I dealt with in life, I was able to relate it to or release it in my writing. I started with poetry, which is my first love. Now I have the chance to write some of my poems in full length stories. My work is fictional and it come to me in the strangest of ways. I love to write and I don’t think of it as a job, it’s just my first love to me. I know that it’s only because God blessed me with this gift. Most people like to write in a quiet environment, where as I enjoy the company of many people around me or just going on about their daily lives. I can easily write without distraction. I enjoy being around life as it is going on verses being in a quiet area with only my thoughts. I hope to one day further my writing into the areas of film, screen plays and producing. I know that with God I can’t go wrong. Even though it may seem like it’s not moving much, I know with time it will all come together.

1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?
.I enjoy being around family, and my friends I love to travel.
2. What inspired you to become an author?
It has always been a dream to see my name on a book I started with poetry and short stories that I only shared with my sister (RIP Tasha).
3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?
I was so excited I couldn’t contain myself the joy of seeing my name on something that I wrote was a blessing.
4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I see myself making movies from the books I create as well as helping others make their dreams come true.
5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?
Make sure it’s more the enjoyment of it and not the money if your in it just for the money and not the heart then you will be disappointed. Plan to work hard and no matter what keep pushing.

Excerpt from Stone Cold Gentleman:
Standing in the doorway was her daughter, crying and mouthing the words mommy. Sinbo took his attention from Stallion, and looked to the little girl standing. He glanced back down at her with a devilish grin on his face as he grabbed his dick and licked his lips. Stallion did not need sound to understand the horror of his intentions, with all the strength she could pull together she reached out, but he struck her again. Stallion tasted the blood in her mouth; again, she was fading in and out. Sinbo was no longer standing over her, he was walking towards her little girl. She looked scared. “Run Hovanna, run!” Stallion screamed, but no words or sound came out.
