Hi everyone and welcome to day 1 of the 31 Days, 31 Authors event! As some of you may have remembered, I did an event similar to this one back in April, titled, 30 Days, 30 Authors. This event spotlighted a different author each day for an entire month. Since this is December, I had to change it up and include an extra day, which means there’s an additional author to spotlight!
Now, enough of me talking; let’s get down to the first featured author. To kick off the event is Sakeena Raheem. She is an urban author who has five novels under her literary belt. You may not know her name now, but you definitely will after this spotlight.
Now, here’s Sakeena!
Sakeena Raheem was born and raised in Chicago Illinois. She is currently signed to Right Circle Publications. She is 34 years old with two children and a grandchild. She enjoys reading everything she can get her hands on playing basketball and enjoying time with family and friends. She has penned five novels and says she is on the verge of releasing more.
1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?
Besides writing I enjoy watching football. Playing basketball and hanging out with family and friends. 2. What inspired you to become an author?
My writing teacher in grammar school instilled the love of writing and reading in me at a young age. Mrs. Lowe was a very driven and dedicated teacher to all her students and because of her my love of writing grew. Writing has given me an outlet to share my wild imagination with the world. 3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?
Wow, was all I kept saying. I just couldn’t believe I really did it. I was writing the same book over and over again for ten years and it changed each time. But when I really sat myself down and wrote it all out. I was proud to say that Sakeena finally did it. It wasn’t just a dream anymore. 4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I’m not a psychic and I can’t predict my future. So I don’t really know where or what Ill be doing in five years. But hopefully I accomplish more things to say I did it again. But I will say this one day I want my own bookstore where I sell my fellow authors books and mine also. 5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?
Only thing I can say to someone that wants to let their imagination run free. Is to do it. I read a book once called letters to a young poet. And the thing I always remembered about it was what the author said to the person that wrote him a letter. If you cant think of nothing but writing then you’re a writer. So all I can say is just write. Don’t worry about pleasing everyone write for you.

From Keys to the City: A Dominic and Skylar Tragedy
