interview

1.Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

I’m pretty good with my hands. So I do some hair sometimes, mainly sew-ins lol. But writing is definitely what I love to do, so I’m always writing. Short stories seem to be my favorite. Plus, I’m a mother; I love being a mom even-though I think it’s one of the hardest, non-stop jobs that anyone could have.

2. What inspired you to become an author?

I’ve always loved to write but when I got into reading urban fiction was when I read Kiki Swinson’s wifey series. Then I read her Bio and released that she was writing about things she’d gone through in life or seen. That’s when I was like ‘Oh okay, I can do this too.’

3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

I self-published my first book, ‘Carolina Rich’. When it was released, of course it didn’t do well with ebook sales but I was just as happy with the small amount of readers that said they were anticipating part two. I was ecstatic. Then I last month, The Street King’s Daughters was released and published by K.C. Mills (Supreme Works Publications). I was just blessed because it actually came in the top 100s on Amazon on release day. Readers don’t understand that amount of love that shows us authors. Especially when you’re not use to people knowing who you or your work are, LOL.

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Hopefully, with God’s will I’ll be a national selling author with national selling authors signed to my publishing company. I’m not ready for that yet but I’m definitely looking forward to those to come. I have so many plans for my future but gaining a bigger fan base is my priority at the moment.

5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?

I always say to anyone if, “You can dream it, you can write it!” Only person can get in your way is yourself. Believing in yourself first is the key. You have to believe in what you write. If you believe then so will the readers. And no matter if you decide to self-publish or sign with an publisher; do your homework about the writing industry first.
