Hi everyone!! Today, we have a special guest joining in on the event today. 🙂 Xyla Turner is quickly becoming a familiar name in the literary world with her awesome and thought provoking stories. The first story I’d read from her was Love Under Attack (Also known as The College President) and I was in awe. I loved the story, the characters (especially T.R.) and how everything came to place. If you haven’t read this story, you should. It’s awesome! That’s why this is such a huge honor to have her apart of this event.

Xyla Turner was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. As a teenager, Xyla wrote short stories and essays that have won numerous awards in local to nationwide competitions. She is an avid reader, but a sucker for romance. Specifically, sassy females and dominant males. Xyla is a dedicated educator and a life coach. Outside of reading, Xyla likes to spend time with her family and travel. She writes different genres, but her favorite is romance.

Besides writing, what else do you like to do?
Besides writing, my full-time job has me at a high school every day and I’m the Vice-Principal. Besides those things, I hang out with my family and friends and try to enjoy life. We travel, do extreme sports and sometimes take part in various craft events in the city.
2. What inspired you to become an author?
My inspiration to be an author started from a young age, as I’ve always been better at the written word than actually verbalizing the story. What actually spurred me to do it was the opportunity to actually submit my manuscript to a publisher after reading a really great story.
3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?
I was extremely nervous and not really sure what to expect. I hit publish and wanted to unpublish so many times because of the nerves. Scared of how it would be received and what people would say.
4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
In the next five years, I see myself still writing the stories I want to write, starting new series and optioning for other media outlets.
5. What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?
My advice is to approach this venture like the business that it is, cultivate relationships and be genuine. It is important to seek help or hire people for things that you are not good at and work hard if you want to succeed. Nobody will care more than you.

From By Chance, No Choice: JD and Tess were in an argument.
Tess’s red eyes focused on me and I noticed her breathing was labored. She looked ready to pass out exhausting all of her energy in one heated conversation.
“Let’s sit, sweetheart.”
“No,” Tess breathed.
“Okay.” I propped my knee on the side of her just in case she went down. “You want my admissions? Fine. I’m in love, mama. This quiet yet crazy woman caught my eye and by chance, she captured my heart. Then I had no choice. So, we can sit here and yell at each other until we’re passed out and blue in the face but I don’t think either of us have much of a choice.” I moved the hair out of her face to the back of her ear. “I will move all heaven and earth for you if I could. My business doesn’t come before you. Look, I’m here. I call you faithfully every day. If I can’t or won’t make it, you’re the first person that knows. You are my priority. So forgive me, when you say I need to prioritize and pick work instead of me; that I get on a plane to come see about what I consider mine.”
