30 Days, 30 Authors- Colby Taylor

Hi everyone!! Today, I have Colby Taylor coming through for the 30 Days, 30 Authors event. I was introduced to Colby’s books by reading Trust and Believe, which is the first book in The Hudson series. Not only did I love that book, but the following ones in the series. The Hudson reminded me so much of the gang from the Love, Life, & Happiness series that it was uncanny. I love the close bond this family has and that no matter what, they are there for each other. If there’re more coming in the series, then I will keep reading because I love each and every one of the characters. 🙂

Now, enough about me raving about this series; let me turn it over to Colby so she can explain about her rise to the top in the literary game.

Here’s Colby!

author bio

Hello everyone.

I am Colby Taylor and I am from Alabama… ROLL TIDE!!! I am of Graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I released my very first book/the first book of my Hudson series on Valentine’s Day of 2014 and I have been adding to it ever since. I love to write about love, since there is no greater thing in life.

author interview

1. Besides writing, what else do you like to do?

Besides writing, I love to read, go to shows (Comedy and Plays) and spend time with    those I love.

2. What inspired you to become an author?

I was inspired to write by two men very dear to me. They believed in me when I didn’t think I could and I will always love both for that. I have always had a passion for poetry, but writing has become a part of me that is as natural as breathing. My very first story I never finished and I started it over ten years ago. Maybe soon…

3. What was your first reaction when your debut novel was published?

My first reaction was being nervous and proud. I was proud that I accomplished my goal, and nervous hoping that at least someone would love to read my stories as much as I love to tell them.

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

In the next five years, I will still be writing and hopefully on a larger scale than I am. I would love to someday be signed to a major and see my books everywhere!

5.What advice can you give to anyone who wants to become an author?

Take time to learn your craft, and never let anyone change the story you want to tell. Though some may not get it, expressing yourself your way is the key!!!

EXCERPT

From One More Try

Chapter 1

“Farrah,” I mumble, opening the door. I can’t stop staring at my wife as if I am seeing a ghost. Is she really here?

The last time I saw Farrah, we were arguing about getting divorced. She swore she would never come back or change her mind about the divorce after the way I abandoned her. I remember trying everything to get her to change her mind, but she wouldn’t budge. Every phone call since then has gone unanswered, so her standing in my doorway has me feeling several different things as once. I honestly don’t know what to think.

“Hey Sa, can I come in?” she asks softly.

“You know you never have to ask to come home,” I respond, trying not to get my hopes up too high.

I just continue watching her as I step aside to let her in. My mind blanks instantly and is consumed with nothing but her saying the words I have been dying to hear for too many months. Please Lord, let her tell me she is coming home I think as she stops in front of me. Automatically her hand goes to her hair on the right side and she pushes it behind her ear. She’s nervous. She always does that when she’s nervous. What is going on?

“I miss you,” I spit out quickly, cutting off anything she may be about to say. I know I’m stalling, but just laying eyes on her renders me incapable of saying anything else. It is just that simple.

“I miss you too, that’s why I’m here. I don’t want to fight anymore. I’m ready to come home Isiah,” she utters the sweetest words I have ever heard. Glancing up, I quickly thank God for granting my one prayer. Mumbling the words aloud, I pull her closer to me and give myself over to the love of my life.

Cupping her face in my hands, I lean into her and taste the most succulent lips I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. My wife’s lips are the only lips I dream about nightly. As her arms wrap around my waist, I get lost in the ecstasy that is the reunion of me and my love. She is finally ready to come home and at this moment, her beautiful words are the only thing consuming my thoughts.

“Isiah? Baby what’s taking so long?” I hear from upstairs.

FUCK!!!! How in the hell did I forget CiCi’s up there!

Dreading opening my eyes, I have no choice as I feel my wife slip from my fingers. No, no, no!!! This cannot be happening! The look in her eyes is one I never wanted to see again. As her eyes mist over, I can feel my chest begin to tighten.

“I knew this was a bad idea…” she mumbles taking a step back.

“No it wasn’t. I can explain this,” I plead with her, knowing damn well I don’t want to.

“It’s not necessary. I see nothing’s changed,” she mutters softly, shaking her head as she opens the door and walks out.

DAMN IT!!!!

“Isiah,” CiCi calls from upstairs.

“Give me a minute,” I call back, as I make a mad dash behind my wife.

I have got to stop Farrah. I have no idea how the hell I can explain this shit, I just know I have to stop her. As I see her getting closer and closer to her car, I reach out and grab her arm. How did I fuck this up again!

“Farrah please,” I beg, stopping her.

“Take your hands off me Isiah,” she growls. I can see nothing but anger radiating off her and I have never heard her voice this deep before.

“I can explain this, I swear I can,” I plead with her.

“How do you explain another woman in your fucking bed Isiah!” she yells.

“She isn’t! I would never put a woman in OUR bed, you know me better than that Farrah… You just said you were ready to come home…” I scramble for any words to save face.

“Damn what I said! There is a bitch in your house Isiah!” she shrieks.

“OUR HOUSE!”

“This will never be my home again,” she rants.

When I see the water start to collect at the rim of her eyes, I know that I may not win this fight. Right now I just don’t want her to close the door on coming home for good. I don’t know if I can chance losing her forever.

“Every call and message has been about how much you miss me and want me to give you another chance. How you can’t be without me! Then I come here and you have another woman in what you claim is supposed to be our home,” she expresses her frustration, lifting her head to the sky. I know she’s trying not to allow a tear to fall.

“I meant every word. That is not what it sounds like. I am not sleeping with her, I swear,” I explain desperately. I know she doesn’t believe though.

“Maybe not now, but you have,” she accuses me.

FUCK!

“I won’t lie to you. That was months ago, but I haven’t touched her since. I can explain if you give me a chance,” I counter, knowing damn well my wife isn’t going to thank goodness. Honestly, I can’t explain this without damaging us even further. Why now God? WHY NOW!!!

“Explain,” she says, folding her arms across her chest.

Are you kidding me! She never listens! Now today she wants an explanation. Life is really fucking me over right now! As I stand in spot, mind sprinting for anything but the truth, my mouth starts to go dry. Is this shit really happening!

“Just like I thought. I’m done Isiah,” she says as she opens her car door.

“This is not over,” I argue, feeling all hope trickle away by the second. Why did she show up tonight? Why the hell did let CiCi stay here? How did I lose control of this situation like this?

“It is for me. Sign the papers so you can be as free as you’ve been acting,” she says climbing in the car.

“Never!”

“Fine with me. I guess I will just have to treat our marriage the same way you do,” she hisses, slamming the door.

“I’ll be damned! Farrah!” I yell, beating on her door as she cranks up.

“Go back to your little girlfriend!” she shouts through the closed window as I spot a single tear start to drizzle down her left cheek. I am so tired of being the cause of all of her tears I don’t know what to do.

“She is not my girlfriend!” I plead with her.

“And I’m no longer your wife!” she screams back as she floors it backing out of my driveway.

“FUCK!!!” I shout in disbelief that this shit just happened.

How in the hell did the one thing I have been praying to happen for over a year return and I lost out again? Can life really be this cruel I ask myself as I return to the house at a snail’s pace? I can’t believe I just had everything I have ever wanted in my hands and lost again. Now what do I do?

Walking back inside to deal with the mess that I have created, I can only pray that if God sent her once, he will see fit to send her back to me again. I don’t know how long I can keep going like this. Once I get this situation under control, I have got to figure out a game plan to get my wife back. Just seeing her is enough for me to know acknowledge that there will never be another. Farrah is the key to my happiness.

I have got to get her to give me One More Try!!!
