Hi everyone!! It’s a brand new day and another talented author to grace the 30 Days, 30 Author event. Kiara Neufville has been writing for a short time, but she is slowly making her name known in the Urban genre with series such as For The Love Of Money and her standalone, Odyssey And Honey. I’m happy to have her apart of this event as she tells her journey in the industry as well as what inspires her to write.

“You are Braver than you Believe, Smarter than you Seem, and Stronger than you Think.”

~ Winnie the Pooh
Hello, I’m Kiara Neufville. I’m twenty one years old. Im Jamaican at heart but live in Maryland. I love Winnie The Pooh. I love shopping and I’m very spoiled. I’m very laid back and down to earth. I’m a college student during the day but at night or in between classes I’m a writer. I love writing. My writing developed from reading many books. The first time I tried writing in high school after reading teenage urban fiction books I took as a joke. I never thought that I wanted to write. Years later I picked back up reading urban fiction books. One day I was speaking with my mom about writing but was just joking. Well so I thought. After the talk with her, I decided I was going to try to write a book. I never thought I would enjoy writing so much. It definitely helps me in ways I thought it wouldn’t. When I have my moments were I need to express myself I put it into a book. Writing takes me from reality and puts me in a space I enjoy. In a couple years I see myself still writing but also having a publishing company. I would love to brand myself to become a beast publisher. The support I get from my publisher helps me too see what I would love to be in a publisher. Who knows maybe I’ll be some of my readers publishers one day.
Sky is the limit for me. 💕

Prologue

I sat in the tub praying this night wouldn’t end so badly.  All I wanted was for my mom to be like other moms to their sixteen-year-old daughters. Why did God put me with a fucked up individual? I swear my mom didn’t have all her fucking screws.

“Tammi, let’s go, nobody is going to wait on your ass all fucking day,” my mom barked while barging in the bathroom.  She looked at me with those dark brown eyes. My mom wasn’t an ugly individual, she was actually a natural beauty. She was peanut butter skin complexion with a short pixie cut. Her height averaged out to be about 5’4 inches. Her body was nice; she had nice D boobs with a plump butt that men adored. Seeing her moving closer to me, I broke out my trance.

“Mommy, can we please just not do this tonight, please?” I begged in a sincerely pleading tone.

“Tammi, what the fuck is wrong with you? I wish it was you who died instead of Casey. Man the fuck up! Ain’t shit out here for free!” She yelled as she stormed out the bathroom. I knew she was pissed to know that I was all in my feelings. My mom hated that shit with a passion. Showing any kind of emotion could very well get my ass beat. I was soaking wet, so I knew she would make that beating the worse one ever. Quickly, I hopped out of the shower. I dried off and started getting dressed into the outfit that she’d left on the counter for me. In no time, I was fully clothed in approximately three minutes at the most.

“Glad to see you’re hustling now. I thought you were going to need a little motivation. You know I don’t mind giving you some,” my mom boasted with a slick roll of the eyes. “Now, let’s fucking go!” She yelled, causing me to jump. I pulled my box braids into a bun while walking behind her. I got to the living room just as she threw a box of Nike boots at me. I grabbed them and sighed while putting them on.

“So, this is the plan, Tammi,” she started.  “You will come in with me, Sandra and Lo.” She then glanced around at the others that were sitting in the living room. “The rest of you will go in first to scope it out.  Body everything moving so that by the time we enter the crib, it’ll be an easy in and out. There are two safes, one upstairs and one downstairs. I’ll take the one downstairs and yall take the one upstairs,” my mom explained.

I just looked around at everyone sitting there with anxious expressions on their faces. They seemed ready and willing to do whatever it took to make this happen. I, on the other hand, just wanted to cry and run back to my room to hide out. However, I knew my mom would beat my ass into next year. I grabbed the bag that she threw at me and the gun she passed me as I walked out of the house behind her.

This was my life at sixteen. I would be robbing my first trap house for money and drugs. From my understanding, my mom was willing to split the money between everyone. Luckily for her, most of the hitters wanted drugs over the money. It was crazy to me because I’d rather the money over the drugs. As I stood there waiting to leave, all I could do was wish that my mom would reconsider me being a part of such a risky scheme. Unlike her, I was nervous as fuck. I should be out with my friends, and/ or thinking about school the next day, not running up in somebody’s spot and robbing it.

***

The car came to a stop as mom parked it almost across the street from the house that we were about to run up in. She nodded her head at everyone as their cue to get out of the car. She then grabbed me by my wrist, in a seemingly forceful way, as we headed towards the trap house.

“If you’re going to look scared then you might as well get shot now. Show no fucking emotions!” She spat through gritted teeth while holding my neck tight.

“How exactly am I supposed to look? I’m scared,” I admitted. “This is not the way that I pictured my life. Robbing traps with my mom?” I pondered while shaking my head.

Tammi, shut that weak shit up! Denise, I don’t know how you put up with her weak ass. You see London’s ass is ready to handle her business,” Sandra barked. She was my mom’s best friend and the statement was absolutely true when it came to them. Birds of a feather sure as hell flocked together.

“Let’s go,” Denise let out as she realized that they’d gotten their cue to enter. “Fuck this up and that’s your ass,” she said in a firm tone as we started walking towards the trap once more.

We were in and out of the house in five minutes, tops. The whole time, I was shaking and jumping from guns going off. Once we got in the car to leave, no one said anything.

***

Finally, we’d made it back to our house and all I wanted to do was lay down. I needed to shake the thoughts of what had happened earlier. However, my mom couldn’t just let it be. She had to say something to me or it wouldn’t have been right.

“This is your life; get used to it. We have to make this money one way or another. Nothing is free in this fucking world. If you want to maintain all the shit you got, then fuck love and fuck those emotions. Focus on the money!” My mom fussed as we entered the house.

“Okay!” I yelled in response. “You wanted me to see what you did for a living. I did, but I’m not doing that for the rest of my life. I was scared shitless,” I added, so she’d know that I wasn’t down like the rest of them.

“So, what the fuck are you going to do?” She asked while looking at me like I’d said something funny.

“I don’t know,” I said with hesitance. “I guess I’ll go to college and someday, be a great mom to my children. Robbing people just isn’t that ideal, not for me anyway,” I added.

“Ha, you hear this shit?” she laughed to herself. “Tammi, wipe all those fucking fairytales out of your head. It’s either robbing or selling ass; choose one,” she boldly stated while walking up to me.

“Neither of those are a choice for me!” I yelled. “I have other options!” The minute that came out of my mouth, my mom was smacking me in the face.

“In life, no man is going to deal with a weak woman that shows emotions. You either going to live life to the fullest or die a miserable bitch,” she spat. “But while you’re living, you better have money because you don’t want to end up in the fucking scums. All the shit Casey had, she worked for it. You’re going to do the same.”

“You killed Casey with this same old bullshit. Are you trying to kill me, too? Why can’t we be like a normal family?” I asked as the tears fell down my cheeks. I was thinking that, for once, my mom may have felt a little empathy for me from the saddened, almost blank expression on her face, but it didn’t last long. With just a blink of an eye, she’d slapped me again, while splitting my lip and causing my nose to bleed.

“I didn’t kill shit! Your sister worked her ass off and that’s what you’re going to do, too. I don’t want to see no more fucking tears. If I do, that’s your fucking ass. I can’t believe you’re this fucking weak!” she yelled, while using the F-bomb like it was the only cuss word that she could harshly use. Unfortunately for me and my soft spirit, tears continued to fall and my mom made good on her threats as she beat on me some more.

“Mom please!” I begged of her, but she wouldn’t stop. She was filled with anger and wanted nothing more than to take it out on me for being so weak. Little did she know, I wasn’t built for this shit. All I wanted was my sister, Casey, back. I couldn’t believe that she’d died from living this careless, cruel lifestyle that my mom had instilled in her. It was just all too much for one to take.

Casey was three years older than me. She was the toughest out of us two. She always told me that she would protect me and that I wouldn’t have to deal with this robbing shit. She knew I wasn’t built like her or our mom. I only could wish that my mom would just stop robbing people and be a fucking mom.

Once the beating was over, she looked at me with hardened eyes and yelled out, “That should teach your ass! NO FUCKING EMOTIONS!”

I nodded my head like I understood clearly and then, I crawled into the bathroom. My body hurt so bad that it was a shame. All I wanted was to forget my life as I washed up and headed to bed to dream this nightmare away.

Two years later

That night, two years prior, was the start of Tammi, the bitch. I showed no emotion due to my mom beating my ass every chance she got, if I did. I’m Tammi, the baddest bitch walking around and nobody could tell me shit. My mom had created a monster.

“Let’s go!” I demanded while following behind my mom and our hitters. I put together this heist and even though I was excited about it, I was just as ready for it to be over. We all got in the cars that waited outside for us, then headed to the trap. We pulled up and I hopped out, creeping quietly with my gun in my back band.

Knock, knock…

“Who is it?” Someone called out.

“Sabrina,” I quickly lied.

The guy behind the door cracked it open just enough, so he could get a better view. I could clearly see him watching me as he licked his lips. He was definitely intrigued by the tight black dress that I had on as he admired my curves.

“I’m wondering if someone could give me a jump or let me use a phone. My car broke down,” I submissively told him. He closed the door shut, only to remove the chain that stopped him from opening the door up all the way. I smiled to myself. It was definitely about to go down. I pulled my gun out and the minute the door opened, I fired off a shot between the big nigga’s eyes. To be the security that held the place down, he was stupid, but who could resist all of this? I pushed my way in while firing my gun off several more times as my hitters came in right behind me.

Instantly, I walked off in the direction of the underground safe where all the money and drugs were. Once I’d gotten the safe open, I started stuffing the shit in bags. I jumped as gun shots rang out in the next room. The sound of the loud noise it made startled me because my crew had silencers.

“Damn,” I whispered while hoping that my crew had put a stop to whomever it was that was trying to retaliate back.

Noooooo,” I heard London call out, followed by, “Hurry up Tammi! We got to go!”

Without a second thought, I quickly finished bagging the shit up then headed back upstairs. Once upstairs, my heart dropped as my mouth fell partly open. I was totally caught off guard.

Noooooo, this can’t be!” I let out while feeling like my legs were buckling underneath me.

“Come on, Tammi! There is nothing that we can do now,” London stated as she grabbed me by the wrist.

“How can I just leave her like this?” I questioned as I saw my mom laid out in a puddle of blood.

“I shot the guy that did it,” London said in hopes of making me feel better. The only thing that it did was piss me off more as I stood over his body and put a bullet through his head. I knew that he was dead already, but it somehow eased the pain of seeing my mom like that. As I glanced over at her lifeless body, I thought about what she’d say at a time like this.

“Show no emotion!”

Without further delay, I leaned down and I kissed her softly on the forehead, before walking out with the bags of goodies in my hand. I felt alone as I glanced around to see that my hitters had left me when things had gotten real. That was the only reason why I felt my mom had gotten shot.

London and I torched the place and hurriedly hopped inside the truck. I sat the bags in between us as I drove away; only to glance back in the rearview mirror while silently saying a prayer for my mom.

Somebody is going to pay for this. It might not be right now, but they will. I thought as I held back the tears from falling from my eyes.
